Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Marketing & Business Development Manager plays a key role in advancing Verrill’s marketing and business development efforts by supporting strategic initiatives, driving regional efforts in the Boston market, and leading analysis and execution across content, research, and client development programs. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Director of Marketing, Business Development, and Client Services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support Verrill’s industry and client team program, including coordinating initiatives, tracking progress, and identifying opportunities for growth.
- Utilize Verrill’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to track and analyze business development efforts, identify opportunities, and support data-informed decision-making.
- Conduct research and analyze market trends, prospects, clients, and competitors—particularly within the Boston market—to support business development initiatives and competitive intelligence efforts.
- Support and coordinate the development of pitches, proposals, and Request for Proposals (RFP) responses, including drafting, contributing strategic input, and tracking outcomes.
- Oversee and secure memberships and sponsorships, ensuring strategic alignment and maximizing associated benefits and visibility.
- Manage and grow Verrill’s alumni program and database, including engagement initiatives, communications, and relationship development.
- Lead tracking and analysis of website and content performance, including Search Engine Optimization, JD Supra, Lexology, and Google Analytics (GA4), translating insights into recommendations that improve visibility and engagement.
- Serve as the primary marketing and business development resource in the Boston office, supporting regional initiatives, attorney needs, and market visibility efforts.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance Verrill’s visibility and business development efforts within the Boston market, including events, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.
- Support the planning and execution of Boston-based events, sponsorships, and client-facing programs, including logistics, communications, and follow-up.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Marketing, Business Development, and Client Services and the Assistant Director of Business Development, as well as attorneys and practice groups, to support firmwide and regional initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of the Boston legal and business landscape, including key players, organizations, and market trends, to inform outreach and positioning strategies.
- Travel periodically to other Verrill offices to collaborate with team members and support cross-office initiatives.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Five (5) years of marketing and business development experience at a law firm or professional services firm.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and marketing-related software (CRMs, Content Management Systems, social media, CRM reporting and data analytics).
- Familiarity with the Boston legal/business market.
- Experience implementing and managing multiple projects.
- Experience working as part of a team, independently, and with cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet deadlines, delegate effectively, and thrive in high-paced environments.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $115,000. This is Verrill’s good faith estimate of the annual salary for the position at the time of this posting for the indicated location. Final base salary will be determined by several factors including, but not limited to skills, experience, job-related qualifications, and other market factors. This range represents only one component of a comprehensive compensation and benefits package at Verrill.
