The Business Development Manager will lead sales and customer relationship management activities for the Pharmaceutical and Nutrition segments including personal involvement with strategic/key accounts. The Business Development Manager will oversee the strategic planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of both existing and new business development initiatives, ensuring alignment with established financial and performance goals. The Business Development Manager will play a key role in shaping the future commercial strategy for the business. This is a remote role with 60% travel. Candidates can sit anywhere in the U.S. but must be able to travel up to 60%.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop commercial strategies and find business opportunities to increase market share and expand into new markets for the company's portfolio of plastic packaging (pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and nutrition bottles, caps and labels).
  • Use competitive analysis and market research to drive business goals.
  • Daily hands-on execution of sales objectives to achieve KPIs, including sales reporting, market mapping and analytics, pipeline management, bid preparation, etc. in order to drive growth in identified markets.
  • Build and/or maintain a strong, sustainable relationship with strategic customers and partners by reinforcing quality, continuous innovation, and solution selling.
  • Comfortable in a complex sales environment
  • Must be able to price, manage and close business in the sales pipeline.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with individuals at multiple levels within major clients.
  • Develop annual sales forecast and provide quarterly updates.
  • Meet annual sales and profitability goals, while delivering robust year over year growth.
  • Work effectively across the organization to ensure that customers' expectations are met.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with our guiding principles.
  • Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a sales role in a similar industry or calling on a similar customer base
  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Effective economic thinking skills with ability to apply concepts such as opportunity cost, competitive advantage, comparative advantage, switching cost and next best alternative.
  • Proven track record of obtaining new customers.
  • Ability to create key account plans and execute against them.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate with a demonstrated background of closing deals.
  • Value selling or solution selling experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) to build budgets and forecasts and to create presentations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRMs) and sales pipeline management tools for tracking and reporting of current and future opportunities.
  • Experience in a dynamic pricing environment and contract management acumen required.
  • Willing and able to travel by air and car.
  • Competitive mentality - must enjoy the thrill of pursuing business and closing new accounts.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well independently, energetic self-starter with strong work ethic.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with others during development and implementation of processes and programs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Packaging sales experience in the plastics industry (pharmaceutical and nutrition bottles, vials, caps)
  • Experience calling on customers in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, nutrition, health & wellness, supplements, and specialty pharmacy verticals or related industries
  • Experience with large, national accounts
