Job description

Payroll Manager requires:

  • Hands-on Workday Payroll expertise with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end multi-state payroll processing (not simply managing or approving payroll).
  • 8+ years of payroll experience (manager will consider 4–6 years if the candidate demonstrates exceptional Workday Payroll expertise and full-cycle ownership).
  • Strong payroll accounting experience, including payroll journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, month-end/year-end close, and SOX controls.
  • Experience processing equity transactions and payroll tax withholding through Workday Payroll.
  • Deep knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax compliance, W-2/W-2c processing, and payroll-related SOX controls.
  • Basic Australia payroll knowledge, including superannuation requirements and preparing payroll data for a third-party provide
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, lookups, etc.)
  • Experience managing or leading a payroll team.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools (Claude, Gemini, or similar) to improve payroll processe
  • U.S. multi-state payroll and Australia payroll support for 1,500+ employees.

DUTIES:

  • Prepare and review payroll journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger postings.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting team to ensure accurate recording of payroll expenses, accruals, and liabilities.
  • Prepare and process end-to-end multi-state payrolls for 1,500+ employees using Workday Payroll
  • Process and submit employee equity transactions and related tax withholding through Workday Payroll
  • Partner with HRIS and IT teams to manage Workday system updates, testing, and enhancements.
  • Ensure accurate calculation, withholding, remittance, and reporting of federal, state, and local payroll taxes.
  • Manage W-2, W-2c, and other year-end tax filings and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll SOX controls and maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations.
