Legal Secretaries handle a wide range of tasks for attorneys within the firm. Some of these tasks include receiving visitors and telephone calls; typing from dictation; responding to inquiries regarding case files; sorting, opening, logging, and distributing mail; scheduling meetings and conferences and notifying interested parties; making travel arrangements; assisting attorneys in gathering case-related information; attending meetings such as client interviews, hearings, or depositions; preparing and processing legal documents such as pleadings, briefs, opinions, orders, subpoenas, etc.; preparing trial notebooks; establishing and maintaining office files; reviewing and summarizing medical records; filing legal documents with the proper courts (a-filing); preparing attorney travel reimbursement vouchers; entering time for billing purposes; and many other important tasks.

Work Environment

Legal Secretaries report directly to their supervising attorney(s). The tasks and responsibilities of legal secretaries are monitored closely. However, legal secretaries must be able to work independently and must demonstrate a good use of judgment.

Legal Secretaries are exposed to confidential information during their employment with the Firm. The Firm owes a duty to protect the confidences of each and every client of the Firm. This duty extends to every employee of the Firm, including legal secretaries. Therefore, employees must avoid discussing any confidential matters with anyone outside of the Firm. Employees are required to sign a confidentiality agreement and HTPAA agreement upon employment.

The firm's standard operating hours are 8:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, a different work schedule may be established by individual attorneys based on the specific needs of his/her practice. Any such schedule will comply with .FLSA requirements.

Minimum Oualifjcations

Qualified applicants must have a minimum of five years experience as a legal secretary in the litigation field. Must be able to type 65 wpm.

Other Qualifications

Candidates should possess good analytical skills, organizational skills, and communication skills and demonstrate use of good judgment.
