Overview

The Associate Director, Commercial Learning Services (CLS) provides strategic leadership for learning and development initiatives across the Commercial Learning Services organization. This role drives innovation, governance, and transformation in training programs-especially those supporting Customer Office capabilities, processes, and implementation.

Success in this role requires expertise in learning experience develop, instructional strategy, agile project management, and stakeholder engagement, along with proficiency in new technologies, data analytics, and ethical AI practices.

Key Responsibilities

Performance Consulting

  • Serve as the primary consultant for CLS learning solutions.
  • Translate business needs into scalable, balanced training strategies.
  • Align learning with strategic goals through change management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Conduct needs assessments to balance learner needs with business priorities.
  • Apply adult learning principles and CLS strategy to scope and implement training.
  • Stay current on industry trends, innovations, and standard processes in learning and AI.

Learning Experience & Instructional Design

  • Develop learner-centered, engaging, and accessible experiences across modalities.
  • Craft compelling narratives that drive behavior change and practical application.
  • Apply universal design principles to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all learners.

Technology & Innovation

  • Demonstrate digital proficiency with LMS, authoring tools (Articulate 360, Captivate), video tools, and emerging tech like VR/AR.
  • Leverage AI-powered platforms for adaptive learning, personalized content, and automation.
  • Understand and address ethical implications of AI in learning, ensuring fairness, privacy, and bias mitigation.

Data & Analytics

  • Analyze learning metrics and learner data to assess effectiveness and improve programs.
  • Measure engagement, learning outcomes, and business impact.
  • Ensure training leads to qualified, ready employees.

Agile Project & Portfolio Management

  • Lead learning initiatives using agile or iterative approaches to deliver rapid value.
  • Develop project charters, statements of work, and design templates.
  • Curate relevant resources and develop bite-sized, just-in-time learning modules.
  • Handle timelines, priorities, and stakeholder communications.
  • Evaluate learning outcomes and share insights with business partners.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams, global partners, vendors, SMEs, and reviewers to ensure alignment.
  • Represent CLS in business partner relationships and oversee training administration and assignment.
  • Influence governance and leadership to adopt optimal learning approaches.
  • Collect feedback to find opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and inclusion.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years in strategic learning and development (ADDIE) or tech
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to
  • F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years designing and delivering training across platforms (virtual, in-person, webcast)
  • Master's degree in Instructional Systems Technology, Performance Technology, Adult Learning, or related field
  • Demonstrated learning agility and ability to bring innovation from external sources
  • Consistent track record to influence and partner across functions and levels
  • Experience with agile content development and global collaboration
  • Experience leading teams to deliver learning projects
  • Familiarity with Sales, Marketing, and Medical functions
  • Experience measuring engagement, learning outcomes, and business impact
  • Experience using AI-powered platforms for adaptive learning, personalized content, and automation of learning processes
  • Proficiency with LMS, authoring tools (Articulate 360, Captivate), video tools, and emerging technologies such as VR/AR

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$127,500 - $187,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
