This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Diabetes Care division where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We're revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

The Artwork and Labeling Development team at Abbott Diabetes Care is seeking a Project Manager Label Packaging to lead the strategy, execution, and delivery of labeling initiatives for our digital health tools. In this highly cross-functional role, you will drive end-to-end labeling changes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with regulatory, brand, and product development.

You will partner with stakeholders across R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Marketing, and PMO to deliver high-quality labeling solutions on time, while proactively identifying risks, resolving issues, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. This role also includes leading and developing a team, fostering a collaborative and accountable environment, and driving processes that enhance efficiency and quality across labeling workflows.

What You'll Work On

  • Develop and guide the strategy for implementing labeling projects, to align with company goals and department activities.

  • Balance, align, and prioritize day-to-day activities of core group to support Artwork and Labeling Development objectives.

  • Effectively work with cross-functional team (e.g. R&D, Regulatory, Operations, Quality, Marketing) to develop labeling and packaging that meets the requirements of the FDA and international regulatory agencies, internal brand/design requirements, and manufacturing specifications.

  • Anticipate future issues, resolve and/or facilitate the resolution of current problems including identifying causes to prevent re-occurrence; Develop alternatives to major, strategic business problems.

  • Create, manage, and approve change control packages in product life cycle management system, and ensure that documentation is accurate, appropriate, and justified. Communicate and coordinate labeling and documentation approvals with other departments and sites.

  • Manage and supervise a team of labeling specialists and coordinators and/or production artists by creating an environment that fosters collaboration, accountability, trust, innovation, and respect.

  • Drives labeling process workflow while working to identify improvements to maximize efficiencies in productivity while improving the quality of the output.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (BFA, BA, BS)

  • Requires 2+ years of relevant work experience in a Technical, Quality / QA, or Operations area, and/or practical knowledge and skill sets in Project Management roles are required.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Regulations and Standards affecting Medical Devices and IVDs.

  • Must have the ability to problem solve, manage projects, influence internal and external groups, and provide leadership from an Operations and Quality perspective. Proven ability to successfully lead people and projects and to motivate and influence others are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Project Management.

  • Experienced producing packaging and labeling artwork, preferably in consumer or medical packaged goods.

  • Understanding of legal issues involved in packaging: trademarks, copyrights, etc. useful.

  • Knowledgeable in a variety of digital, print materials and methods.

  • Knowledge of printing standards and methods of production.

  • Productive supervisory experience is optimal.

  • Computer literacy in applicable software programs is optimal.

  • Exhibit leadership and strong organizational and human relations skills.

  • Demonstrate ability to interact and communicate with various levels of individuals and functional areas.

  • Be a mentor/supervisor for other members of the department. Basic graphics design and printing industry knowledge are pluses.

  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong proofreading skills a must.

  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, excellent time management skills, works with a sense of urgency and ownership.
