Job description

Quality Manager

Summary

The Quality Manager will lead the quality management system for Overnight Labels’ two Long Island sites: Farmingdale and Deer Park. One site is currently SQF certified for flexible packaging, and the role will be responsible for maintaining certification while building a practical, disciplined quality system across both locations.

This is a high-impact opportunity for a quality leader who enjoys continuous improvement, building systems, and leading meaningful change. PLPS is in the middle of a significant quality transformation, including the development of a corporate quality management system and the implementation of an electronic QMS. Overnight Labels is a key part of that transformation. The right person will see this as a chance to take an evolving quality environment, strengthen the foundation, implement better systems, develop the team, and leave the business stronger than they found it.

This role requires someone who can take direction, understand the broader business objective, and then drive execution without constant oversight. The successful candidate must have experience making sound quality decisions independently, implementing and sustaining improvements, leading through major change, influencing site leadership without direct authority, and translating corporate quality expectations into practical systems that support production rather than simply adding administrative burden.

The successful candidate must be both hands-on and polished. They need to be willing to spend meaningful time on the production floor, understand the realities of manufacturing, and earn credibility with teams who value hard physical work, long hours, and production results. At the same time, they must be professional, organized, and confident when communicating with customers, auditors, and leadership. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys a challenge, likes turning complexity into structure, and takes pride in building quality systems for impact, not for show.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and continuously improve the quality management system across Overnight Labels’ Farmingdale and Deer Park sites.
  • Maintain SQF certification at the certified flexible packaging site and support continued readiness for SQF, customer, and internal audits.
  • Lead implementation of all eQMS modules at Overnight Labels, including adoption, training, process discipline, and sustained site usage.
  • Own assigned corporate quality system processes, SOPs, work instructions, and/or eQMS modules under the direction of the Director of Quality.
  • Partner with site operations leadership to implement quality system improvements that are informed by production needs and practical for the manufacturing environment.
  • Influence site leaders and production teams to adopt new quality processes, even where formal authority is limited.
  • Balance the needs of local manufacturing teams with corporate quality expectations, customer requirements, and board-level priorities.
  • Spend time on the production floor to understand process challenges, support investigations, build credibility, and drive practical improvement.
  • Facilitate problem-solving sessions using tools such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, 8D, and other structured root cause methods.
  • Reduce customer complaints and quality credits through thorough investigations, effective corrective actions, and disciplined follow-up.
  • Conduct internal audits, Gemba reviews, management reviews, and quality system assessments to identify risk and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain quality KPIs to track performance, identify trends, and drive accountability.
  • Create and deploy SOPs, work instructions, training materials, visual management, and process controls to sustain improvements.
  • Lead and support major changes to quality processes, technology, documentation, training expectations, and site behaviors.
  • Manage, train, delegate to, and advocate for three Quality Technicians, ensuring they are supported, developed, and used effectively.
  • Build a quality culture that respects production realities while raising expectations for compliance, documentation, ownership, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with sister sites and corporate quality leadership to support standardization across PLPS where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of experience in quality leadership within SQF, ISO 9001, flexible packaging, labels, printing, or a related manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience making independent quality decisions, implementing those decisions through cross-functional execution, and sustaining improvements over time without requiring constant direction.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of quality system processes from problem identification through implementation, training, follow-up, and long-term effectiveness monitoring.
  • Experience implementing or managing an eQMS strongly preferred.
  • Experience with SQF, customer audits, internal audits, CAPA, document control, training systems, complaints, and management review.
  • Strong ability to influence manufacturing leaders and production employees without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through significant organizational, system, or process change.
  • Hands-on production-floor problem solver who can also communicate professionally with customers, auditors, and corporate teams.
  • Strong delegation, training, coaching, and people-development skills.
  • Ability to translate corporate quality requirements into practical, production-informed processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, Quality, or related field preferred.
  • ASQ CMQ/OE, Six Sigma, SQF Practitioner, or related certification a plus.
