Job description

Job Summary:
The Jr. Process Engineer supports the design and development of process systems by assisting with process simulations, heat and material balances, and equipment sizing. This role collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistency and quality across design deliverables, while contributing to studies, calculations, and safety reviews. Working under supervision, the Jr. Process Engineer applies foundational engineering principles and begins utilizing industry standards, procedures, and tools to support efficient and compliant project execution.
Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the design and development of process flow diagrams to define the overall process scheme.
  • Participates in process engineering functions including feasibility & optimization studies, process simulations & heat/material balances, process equipment sizing, process data for instrument & mechanical data sheets, hydraulic piping line sizing, relief calculations & flare network modeling and other philosophies/reports.
  • Interfaces with the process team and all other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of work and that consistent technical content is maintained for all design documents/data throughout the project.
  • Participates in HAZOP, HAZID and SIL rating studies.
  • Assists in redlining and backchecking process and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Assists in the development of suitable process conditions and specifications for equipment, e.g. pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, fired heaters and distillation columns.
  • Begin performing tasks using industry standards and other standard procedures and tools.
  • Completes tasks such as study reports, meeting minutes, calculations, etc. as needed.
  • Performs related duties, as needed.

Qualifications / Education Requirements:
  • BSc, MSc or equivalent in Process / Chemical Engineering is required.
  • 3-7 years of experience.
  • NCEES Engineering-in-Training preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret technical information applicable to Process Engineering.
  • High level of commitment to safety.
  • Highly motivated and positive attitude.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Software:
  • Ability to use HYSYS, Aspen Flare System Analyzer, and other relevant process simulation software projects (BR&E ProMax, VMG Symmetry, etc.) preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) preferred.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is primarily conducted in an office environment but may require occasional travel to off-site work locations.
  • Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant or facility.
  • When on field assignment you may be required to work in a plant and/or shop areas around production machinery subject to varying temperatures and noise.
  • May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.
  • May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation):
  • Ability to lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including sufficient clarity of speech, hearing, or other communication capabilities.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Sufficient visual acuity or other observational abilities to review documents, perform analysis, and conduct investigations.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform routine office tasks such as typing and using standard office equipment.
  • Sufficient mobility to perform office duties and travel to off-site locations as needed.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting operational or field locations, as required by the safety department.
