A Safe Place is searching for our next HR Generalist! We are a mission-driven organization, and this role will be the main point of contact to provide support for our staff of 80 employees. We are looking for an experienced HR professional who is a self-starter and has strong knowledge of HR compliance, policies, and procedures.


Our Organization:

A Safe Place is the only organization in Lake County, Illinois, dedicated exclusively to supporting victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Through our comprehensive programs, we provide survivors with the resources they need to rebuild their lives, prevent future abuse through targeted abuser intervention, and educate the community on how we can all work together to end these pervasive issues.

Our mission is to foster a community-wide response to domestic violence and human trafficking by raising awareness of their causes and teaching effective ways to address them. By breaking the cycle of abuse, we aim to create safer, healthier communities for all. We are proud to offer all of our services free of charge to survivors. Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the HR Generalist will be a department of one supporting a variety of HR functions including: employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, performance management, benefits administration, and offboarding. This role will be the main point of contact for employees and managers and ensure HR practices are aligned with employment law and organizations policies. The HR Generalist will work to promote a positive and productive workplace culture.

Job Location: Zion, IL

Hours: 40 hours per week

Compensation: $70,000-$87,000 annually

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure HR policies and HR procedures are compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Recruit for open positions including posting roles and interviewing and ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires.
  • Conduct investigations as needed to resolve workplace conflict and promote a positive workplace culture.
  • Support the performance review process, coach manager on performance improvement strategies, and maintain documentation for performance issues.
  • Benchmark compensation data and assist with compensation reviews and salary adjustments.
  • Administer employee benefit programs and answer employee benefit questions.
  • Coordinate and support training programs, professional development, and leadership development initiatives
  • Maintain HRIS to ensure data accuracy
  • Manage the employee separation process and conduct employee exit interviews.
