Job Overview
The Grounds Manager is responsible for the overall planning, development, and maintenance of the organization's grounds. This includes managing a team of groundskeepers, overseeing landscape projects, ensuring proper care of plants and turf, and maintaining outdoor facilities. The Grounds Manager will ensure that all grounds are aesthetically pleasing, functional, and safe for owner's property.
Roles & Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all grounds, including lawns, gardens, and trees
  • Plan and oversee landscape projects, including planting, pruning, and removal of vegetation.
  • Coordinate seasonal tasks such as tree maintenance, leaf collection, and irrigation system maintenance.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of groundskeeper's staff.
  • Assign tasks and monitor work progress to ensure high-quality results.
  • Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork.
  • Ensure regular maintenance of grounds equipment and tools.
  • Conduct inspections to identify areas needing repairs or improvements.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized services as needed.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect staff and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, chemicals used, and safety inspections.
  • Manage the grounds maintenance expenses, including cost estimates.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficient use of resources.
  • Address inquiries and concerns from key stakeholders regarding grounds maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support events and activities on the grounds.
  • Ensure grounds are presentable and accessible for all scheduled events.

Qualification
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/ or Experience: Education: Bachelor's degree in horticulture, landscape management, or a related field (preferred but not always required). Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in grounds maintenance or landscape management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: May be required to maintain a valid drivers license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of horticulture, plant care, and landscape design.
Proficient in the use of grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and multitask effectively.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in grounds maintenance.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; performance evaluations; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Ensure employees are properly trained on tasks and safety requirements.
