Job Description
The Frederick Keys Grounds Intern is a part-time internship designed only for current university students who will be receiving college credit for participation in this internship. The Grounds Operations Intern will be gaining real-world experience with responsibilities within the organization. They will receive the opportunity to work with an experienced grounds team, build a strong professional network, and maintain a top playing surface and facility.
The Grounds Intern will work together with the Head Groundskeeper and Groundkeeper Assistant to maintain a top playing field. We are looking for someone with some prior experience and the desire to gain even more experience. 
 
 
General Responsibilities
  • Assist with the maintenance of the playing surface such as moving, field marking, fertilization, irrigation, mound and plate repair, edging, skin maintenance, batting practice setup, aerification, and set up for extra events.
  • Clean dugouts, bullpens, and pull field trash as necessary
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for all stadium events, including game days
  • Work and learn on a variety of different surfaces including synthetic and grass
  • Work and learn the characteristics of irrigation systems, fertilizers, soil conditioners, and materials
  • All other duties assigned by Head Groundskeeper, Assistant Groundskeeper, Managing Director, or General Manager of the Keys
 
Game Day Responsibilities
  • Prepare stadium for game day including, but not limited to, wiping down counter tops, checking fixtures for malfunctions, maintenance, and other duties as assigned
  • Assist with the set-up, take down, and operation of the fun zone, as required
  • Work with the marketing and sales teams to execute promotions
  • Engage with fans and improve stadium experience in real-time based on feedback
  • Work with the operations team to ensure the ballpark is operating in a safe and efficient manner
  • Assist with set-up and take-down of parking barriers as well as assist with parking needs, as required
  • Assist with organization and execution of Kids Run the Bases after every home game
Qualifications
  • College sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students working for academic credit in Facility Management, Turf Grass science, or related fields.
  • Ability to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Safe operation of hand tools and small engine equipment (leaf blower, string trimmers, etc.)
  • Some knowledge of maintenance of landscaping (seeding, sodding, grass cutting, weed whacking, etc.)
  • Strong work ethic and a desire to learn
  • Willing to work outside in variable weather
