What is a Functional Capacity Evaluation job?

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) job involves assessing an individual's physical and functional abilities to determine their capacity to work or perform specific tasks. Professionals in this role, such as physical or occupational therapists, conduct standardized tests to evaluate strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall functional capabilities. These evaluations are often used in workers' compensation cases, disability claims, or return-to-work assessments. The goal is to provide objective data that help employers, insurance companies, and medical professionals make informed decisions about a person's functional abilities and limitations.

Collaboration with physicians, case managers, and employers is common to ensure evaluations meet specific referral goals. While the work is often structured and detail-oriented, each case can present unique challenges, making adaptability and ongoing learning important parts of the job.
