How much do full desk recruiting jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for full desk recruiting in the United States is $83,781.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $66,000.00 and $100,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is full desk recruiting?

Full Desk Recruiting is a staffing model where a recruiter manages both the client (employer) and candidate sides of the recruiting process. This means they are responsible for sourcing and screening candidates, as well as building relationships with clients, understanding their hiring needs, and negotiating job offers. Unlike specialized roles where recruiting and sales are separate, full desk recruiters handle the entire cycle from business development to placement. This approach allows for more personalized service and greater control over the hiring process. It can be challenging but often leads to stronger client and candidate relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full desk recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Desk Recruiter, you need strong sales acumen, talent sourcing abilities, and a solid understanding of recruitment processes, often supported by a bachelor's degree or relevant experience. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), CRM software, and sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter is essential. Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively managing both client and candidate relationships, ensuring successful placements, and driving business growth.

What are some common challenges faced by full desk recruiters, and how can they be addressed?

Full Desk Recruiters often juggle both client acquisition and candidate management, which can make time management and prioritization challenging. Balancing the needs of multiple clients while sourcing high-quality candidates requires effective organizational skills and clear communication. Building strong relationships with both clients and candidates is key, as is staying adaptable to changing job market trends. Utilizing applicant tracking systems and setting realistic daily goals can help streamline workflows and ensure success in this multifaceted role.

What is the difference between Full Desk Recruiting vs Staffing Agency Recruiter?

AspectFull Desk RecruitingStaffing Agency Recruiter
ResponsibilitiesEnd-to-end recruitment, client management, candidate sourcing, negotiationsCandidate sourcing, screening, placement, often on a temporary basis
Work EnvironmentIndependent or agency-based, client-focused, often project-drivenAgency office, high-volume, fast-paced
CredentialsRecruitment experience, industry knowledge, strong communication skillsSimilar credentials, often with staffing certifications

Full Desk Recruiting involves managing the entire hiring process for clients, including business development and candidate placement. Staffing Agency Recruiters typically focus on sourcing and placing candidates, often for temporary roles. Both roles require recruitment skills, but Full Desk Recruiters handle more client relationships and strategic responsibilities.

How to become a full desk recruiter?

To become a full desk recruiter, gain experience in recruiting or sales, develop strong communication and negotiation skills, and understand the full recruitment process from sourcing to placement. Many successful recruiters also learn to use applicant tracking systems (ATS) and build a network of industry contacts. Typically, entry-level roles or internships provide a pathway into full desk recruiting positions.

What does a full desk recruiting do?

A full desk recruiter manages the entire hiring process for a specific set of roles, including sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, and making offers. They handle both client relationships and candidate pipelines, often working independently and using applicant tracking systems to streamline recruitment activities.

Direct Hire Recruiter (Full Desk/360)

*Please Note: While this role is remote, candidates must live within the Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Dallas, or Houston metro areas. Applications from candidates outside of these markets cannot be considered.*

At Openwork, we're looking for experienced agency recruiters who know how to build and run a successful full desk. This is not a recruiting coordinator, sourcer, or recruiting-only role. We are seeking proven 360 recruiters with a track record of developing client relationships, generating job orders, recruiting talent, and making placements.

As am Executive/Direct Hire Recruiter, you'll own the entire business cycle from business development and client management to candidate recruitment and placement. You'll have the autonomy to build your market, grow your book of business, and directly impact your earnings and career growth.

To be successful in this role, you must have at least 3-5+ years of experience running a true full desk within a professional staffing environment.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and grow your own book of business through proactive business development activities, networking, referrals, and strategic outreach.
  • Run a full 360 recruiting desk, owning both client acquisition and candidate delivery.
  • Prospect, cold call, conduct client meetings, and uncover hiring opportunities within your market.
  • Build long-term partnerships with hiring managers and decision-makers by understanding their business challenges and providing talent solutions.
  • Skill-market top candidates to generate new business opportunities and create demand.
  • Recruit, interview, assess, and present high-caliber professional talent.
  • Manage the full hiring process, including candidate sourcing, qualification, interview preparation, offer negotiation, and placement.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with both clients and placed candidates to drive retention, referrals, and repeat business.
  • Consistently achieve recruiting, sales, activity, and revenue goals.
  • Maintain accurate ATS documentation and pipeline management.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of experience running a true full desk (360) within a professional staffing or recruiting agency environment.
  • Demonstrated success generating new business and managing client relationships.
  • Proven track record of recruiting and placing professional-level talent.
  • Experience managing the entire recruitment lifecycle from business development through placement.
  • Comfortable making outbound sales calls, conducting client meetings, negotiating fees, and closing business.
  • Strong consultative selling, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple searches, clients, and priorities simultaneously.
