Job description

Job Overview
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor is the primary back-up to the FSQA Manager and will directly supervise and coordinate the activities within the lab to ensure the quality of product is consistent with Company expectations and customer requirements.
Job Responsibilities
  • Support the FSQA department in the efforts to ensure raw materials and packaged products meet GLC and customer specifications
  • Develop, implement, review and maintain programs that support food safety fundamentals in cooperation with plant FSQA Manager
  • Facilitate the effective implementation and maintenance of quality audit programs including SQF, Identity preserved and customer specific audits.
  • Facilitate investigations and support corrective and preventive actions related to the food safety and quality programs
  • Coordinate and respond to customer concerns related to food safety and product quality
  • Communicate with cross-functional plant teams on FSQA projects, audit results and corrective actions
  • Facilitate and support training of all organization personnel to drive competency in execution of functions affecting product legality, safety and customer specifications
  • Communicate with plant and corporate FSQA on supplier concerns to resolve and mitigate problems
  • Facilitate internal audits of all plant areas for food safety and GMP compliance
  • Support sanitation programs to drive plant cleanliness and adequate documentation
  • Function as direct supervisor of the hourly FSQA team members and evaluate their performance for continuous improvement
  • Observe and evaluate laboratory and operational processes to drive continuous improvement on issues relating to the food safety and quality programs
  • Coordinate and participate in FSQA mock exercises such as Mock Trace/Recall and Mock Intruder
  • Facilitate and support product sampling and shelf life product retention program
  • Motivate and lead by example
  • All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
  • All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by plant and corporate leadership
  • Maintain company confidentiality

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field, or commensurate experience.
  • 2 years of Quality supervision experience or more.
  • 2 years of lab experience or more.
  • In depth understanding of chemical and physical processes relating to cheese and packaging quality.
  • Ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional expertise and experience.
  • Ability to administer a proactive management approach.
  • Ability to provide leadership, support, communication and direction to lab technicians, as well as other personnel.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve beyond the routine issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Able to work in the US without corporate sponsorship.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience with thermal processing and/or industrial pasteurization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or Related Science Degree.
  • SAP experience.
  • SQF certified.
  • PCQI Certified.
  • HACCP Certification.

Working Conditions
• Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
• Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder and pushing/pulling/carrying.
• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
• Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 50-60 degrees F.
• Work is performed in a lab setting.
