Job description

We are seeking an experienced Freight Broker to join our team. The desired candidate will possess the ability to manage their time and keep load information organized within a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

    Compensation: 

    • Starting base salary for this position is: $60,000+ per year 
    • Pay is based on job-related experience
    • This position is eligible for commission

    Schedule:

    • Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm
    • This position is subject to afterhours work and end times may vary

    Location: 

    • This position is hybrid and part time in the St. Michael location.
    • Training period will be at the St. Michael facility full time. 

    Essential Functions:

    • Control outside carrier procurement, communication, and management. Manage new and existing carrier relationships. Negotiate rate to be cost-effective and locate dependable outside carriers to handle inbound/outbound shipments. Intervene in carrier billing and performance issues. Solicit carrier rate quotes and manage that data while determining optimal carrier based on load origin and destination. Assist in getting additional carrier data (insurance, contacts, W-9 etc.) needed to complete setup and utilization.
    • Manage, consolidate, and schedule load planning. Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments through recognition of geographic locations, routing, and timing. Schedule and record pickup and delivery appointments with time and mile understanding. Provide documentation to all necessary parties, internally and externally, to ensure all expectations can be met. Provide follow-up to ensure on-time pickup and delivery as needed.
    • Solve problems with prompt communication and decision-making abilities. First point of contact to rectify issue with buyers, sellers, carriers, drivers, warehouse/receiving office, sales, transportation as well as shipper and delivery locations. Work with Commodity Exchange Group on space availability, schedule appointments, line up backhaul (if needed) and communicate pertinent information.
    • Attendance:  Regular, timely attendance to meet customer needs in an efficient and effective manner.
    • Other duties as assigned. Work special projects or assignments as directed.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Associates degree or equivalent work experience.
    • Strong organizational and planning skills; ability to multi-task, handling frequent interruptions and shifting of priorities. 
    • Ability to effectively communicate through multiple communication platforms (Email, phone calls, in-person conversation, etc.)
    • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel)
    • Preferred experience in logistics operations

    Physical and Environmental Factors:

    • Safety Awareness - Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures. Immediately report safety concerns to supervisor.  Attend, and successfully complete, when applicable, all required safety training.
    • Quality Awareness - Comply with the requirements of the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and Food Safety and Quality Food Programs (SQF).
