To excel as a Freelance Digital Accessibility Specialist, you need a solid understanding of accessibility standards (like WCAG), web development basics (HTML, CSS, ARIA), and experience conducting accessibility audits. Familiarity with assistive technologies (such as screen readers), accessibility testing tools, and recognized certifications like IAAP’s CPACC or WAS are highly valuable. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills help you collaborate with clients and educate teams on best practices. Staying up-to-date with the latest guidelines and tools allows freelancers to offer effective, compliant recommendations and deliverables.
