What is a creative manager?

Creative Managers are professionals who oversee the creative direction and output of a company or team, often within advertising, marketing, or design environments. They lead creative projects from concept to completion, manage creative teams, and ensure that visual, written, and multimedia content aligns with brand strategy and goals. Senior roles or those in large organizations may earn higher, especially with strong leadership skills and proficiency in design or project management tools.

How does a creative manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams on large projects?

Creative Managers often serve as the bridge between creative teams and other departments, such as marketing, product development, and sales. They are responsible for translating project goals into actionable creative strategies, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines, and facilitating clear communication across teams. This involves regular meetings, feedback sessions, and collaborative planning to deliver cohesive campaigns or products. Effective Creative Managers are skilled at balancing creative vision with business objectives, making adaptability and strong interpersonal skills essential for success.

This position involves handling multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines and maintaining brand standards across all deliverables.
  • Graphic Design - Digital and print design, adherence to brand guidelines, collaborating with various departments to fulfill design needs and managing assets for promotional materials and signage.
  • Brand Design Management - Uphold and extend brand guidelines, create content that aligns with brand identity, conduct trend analysis to guide visual strategies and ensure brand consistency across all communication channels.
  • Project Management - Manage timelines and workflows, ensure projects are completed on time, identify new opportunities based on analytics and work with external vendors for specialized projects.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and comparable work experience in marketing, communications, advertising or public relations.
  • Three to five years of experience in the graphic design/branding field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, and Canva.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Capable of working independently as well as in a team environment.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Be highly organized and dependable with deadlines
  • Effectively prioritize multiple projects
  • Work confidently in an in-house, team-based environment
  • Add creative and strategic value to an already high-performing department
  • Have strong digital design skills

Benefits:
  • Salary range - $45,000 to $65,000 based on experience
  • Health, dental, vision and life insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) plus scheduled holidays
