What is a creative manager?

Creative Managers are professionals who oversee the creative direction and output of a company or team, often within advertising, marketing, or design environments. They lead creative projects from concept to completion, manage creative teams, and ensure that visual, written, and multimedia content aligns with brand strategy and goals. Creative Managers collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and other departments to deliver effective and innovative campaigns. They are responsible for maintaining high-quality standards and meeting deadlines, often juggling multiple projects at once.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative manager?

To thrive as a Creative Manager, you need a strong background in design principles, project management, and marketing strategy, often supported by a degree in design, marketing, or a related field. Proficiency in creative software like Adobe Creative Suite, project management tools, and familiarity with digital marketing platforms is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help Creative Managers inspire teams and articulate a clear vision. These skills are crucial for delivering innovative campaigns on time and ensuring the creative output aligns with business objectives.

How does a creative manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams on large projects?

Job description

Creative Manager Position Overview

The Creative Manager is responsible for creating and delivering high-performing, brand-right creative across PopStrokeโ€™s digital and traditional marketing channels.

This is a highly hands-on role for an experienced graphic designer who can move quickly, manage a high volume of creative needs, and maintain exceptional quality and brand consistency. The Creative Manager will work closely with Marketing leadership, Social Media, Data Science, Operations, Technology, outside agencies, and venue teams to bring the PopStroke brand to life across every customer touchpoint.

This role will also use creative performance data and customer insights to understand what is working, identify opportunities, and rapidly develop new concepts and variations. The right candidate is both a strong creative thinker and an exceptional executorโ€”someone who can develop original ideas, personally bring them to life, and continuously improve creative based on results. This opportunity is well suited for a designer who wants to grow into a future creative director role and take increasing ownership of PopStrokeโ€™s visual identity, brand style guides, and creative standards.

Position Status

Position Status: Exempt
Department: Marketing
Employment Type: Full-time
Location: Dallas, Texas

Key Responsibilities Graphic Design & Creative Production

Design advertising and marketing assets for paid social, digital display, email, websites, mobile experiences, print, outdoor media, in-venue marketing, and other customer touchpoints.

Develop original campaign concepts that capture the energy, personality, and social experience of PopStroke.

Produce a high volume of polished creative assets and platform-specific variations on short timelines.

Adapt creative across locations, markets, audiences, promotions, campaigns, and advertising platforms.

Translate marketing objectives and campaign strategies into compelling visual concepts.

Balance multiple concurrent projects and priorities while consistently meeting aggressive deadlines.

Ensure all creative is accurate, polished, technically sound, and ready for release.

Performance Creative & Optimization

Create controlled creative variations for A/B and multivariate testing.

Partner with Marketing and Data Science to understand which messages, formats, and visual concepts are performing.

Use funnel performance, campaign results, customer segments, and testing data to inform future creative.

Rapidly develop and adjust creative based on performance insights.

Identify winning creative concepts and expand them across audiences, markets, and channels.

Continuously improve creative effectiveness through disciplined experimentation and iteration.

Motion Video and Content Production Support

Support the development of motion graphics, animated advertisements, short-form videos, and other dynamic media in partnership with the companyโ€™s video production resources.

Provide design assets, creative direction, storyboards, graphics, and other support for photography and video content as needed.

Collaborate with internal video production resources to adapt visual content for digital campaigns, social media, and other customer touchpoints.

Contribute strong visual storytelling and brand consistency across platforms and formats without serving as the primary owner of video production or editing.

Brand & Creative Standards

Serve as a steward of the PopStroke brand, ensuring consistency across every asset, campaign, location, and customer touchpoint.

Maintain strict adherence to PopStrokeโ€™s brand guidelines while finding creative ways to keep the brand fresh, relevant, and engaging.

Help evolve creative systems, templates, brand style guides, and processes to improve consistency, quality, and speed, with the opportunity to assume greater ownership as the role grows.

Review final assets for accuracy, quality, brand compliance, and technical requirements before release.

Organize source files, templates, asset libraries, and version histories so creative can be easily accessed and reused.

Help establish efficient processes for managing the high volume of creative needs across a growing, multi-location organization.

Creative Collaboration

Collaborate closely with Marketing, Social Media, Operations, Technology, Data Science, outside agencies, and venue teams.

Translate business and marketing needs into clear, effective creative solutions.

Develop original creative concepts while also executing against established campaign direction.

Accept direct feedback, revise rapidly, and remain focused on delivering the strongest possible business and creative outcome.

Monitor creative, advertising, social, and cultural trends and determine which are appropriate for the PopStroke brand.

Bring new ideas forward proactively rather than waiting for creative direction.

Qualifications

5+ years of professional graphic design experience across digital and traditional channels, preferably within advertising, marketing, or brand environments.

Demonstrated experience producing creative assets at scale for a multi-channel consumer brand, agency, or high-growth company.

Portfolio demonstrating exceptional graphic design across digital and traditional channels, advertising creative, brand consistency, and high-volume creative production.

Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; working knowledge of After Effects and Premiere Pro is preferred.

Strong proficiency with Figma or comparable collaborative design software.

Ability to support motion graphics, animation, and short-form video projects through design assets, creative direction, and cross-functional collaboration.

Experience designing for paid social and digital advertising platforms, including their format and technical requirements.

Experience using performance data and creative-testing results to improve subsequent creative.

Strong understanding of typography, composition, color, hierarchy, image selection, and visual storytelling.

Demonstrated ability to work quickly across multiple projects without sacrificing accuracy or brand quality.

Strong attention to detail and sound creative judgment.

Ability to independently manage projects from concept through final execution.

Ability to accept direct feedback, revise rapidly, and remain focused on measurable business results.

Ability to work from PopStrokeโ€™s Dallas office.

A portfolio is required with the application. Candidates who do not submit a portfolio will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional photography experience, particularly lifestyle, hospitality, sports, food and beverage, or event photography.

Experience directing on-location photo or video shoots.

Experience with 3D design, illustration, motion design, video editing, or interactive media.

Experience working with hospitality, entertainment, sports, restaurants, retail, or other location-based consumer brands.

Experience supporting a multi-location organization with localized creative needs.

Familiarity with digital asset-management and project-management systems.

Understanding of marketing funnels, conversion metrics, customer segmentation, and creative attribution.

Experience working directly with data scientists, analysts, performance marketers, or media-buying teams.

What Success Looks Like

PopStroke consistently launches distinctive, engaging, brand-right creative at the speed required by modern marketing and advertising platforms.

Creative needs across the organization are prioritized and delivered quickly without sacrificing quality.

PopStroke maintains a consistent and recognizable visual identity across locations, campaigns, platforms, and customer touchpoints.

Creative decisions increasingly reflect measurable performance and customer response rather than internal preference alone.

Winning concepts are quickly identified, expanded, and adapted across audiences and channels.

Underperforming creative is rapidly replaced with thoughtful new concepts and variations.

Creative systems and processes allow PopStroke to produce more high-quality work as the company grows.

Advertising performance improves through disciplined creative experimentation and iteration.

PopStroke is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
