Job description

With locations in Pittsburgh PA and Kutztown PA, McConway and Torley, LLC has been in continuous operations since 1869, the same year the first US transcontinental railroad was completed. As the original designers of the first standard automatic coupler, continued innovation and craftsmanship have led to a product line that includes every ARR approved coupler as well as custom coupler solutions, which are all proudly cast in the US.

Kutztown Foundry and Machine is hiring for a Foundry Supervisor. In this position you will manage the day to day activities of the Foundry and Melt Shop, including inventory and equipment. You will lead a team to ensure the group is always working effectively and efficiently. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting and supporting the foundry manager in accomplishing department goals and plans
  • Leading your team, to include coaching, mentoring, and realigning workloads
  • Enforcing all company rules and regulations, initiating necessary discipline, and ensuring all work areas and equipment are clean and orderly
  • Developing performance expectations of the department employees
  • Driving quality improvement activities
  • Creating individual work assignments to accomplish tasks set forth by department manager

Location: Kutztown, PA

Shift: 11pm-7am

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years in a related manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership skills and experience managing a production team
  • Understand and have a working knowledge of all jobs in the foundry as required to meet the department goals and plans
  • Ability to understand and utilize computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot
  • Strong communication skills

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Associates Degree or applicable related work experience

Working Conditions:

  • Work environment includes plant, warehouse, production and non-production areas and plant grounds.
  • This position may require work/maintenance coverage beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidays
  • Ability to tolerate both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant

  • Be aware of and observe all safety practices. Including but not limited to- Safety glasses, safety boots, hearing protection, etc… as required
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Participate in safety committees and initiatives as assigned.
