Job Title: Dean of Culture

Position Hours: Full-time, occasional extended hours for events
Length of Term/Employment: 220 workdays / At-Will
Reports to: Campus Principal
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
I. Position Mission
The Dean of Culture is a pivotal campus leadership role responsible for cultivating and maintaining a positive and safe school environment that actively promotes student learning, engagement, and overall well-being. This position will lead and oversee all initiatives related to student discipline, campus safety, attendance, student recruitment, and the coordination of all campus testing programs. The Dean of Culture will support and model the implementation of the Lasting Leadership Values (LLV) and foster a culture of Determined Destiny Culture (DDC). The Dean of Culture will work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the wider community, reporting directly to the Campus Principal to support the principal's vision for a high-performing and nurturing campus.
II. Minimum Qualifications
? Education: Bachelor's Degree (Required)
? Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (Preferred)
Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an educational setting with a focus on student support, behavior management, or related roles (Required).
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering positive school culture and managing student discipline (Required).
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity within a school environment (Preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Deep understanding of child and adolescent development and effective behavior management strategies.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Familiarity with state assessment programs (e.g., STAAR, TELPAS) and test security protocols.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to implement core leadership values and cultural frameworks.

III. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean of Culture will:
A. Campus Culture & Climate
  • Lead the development, implementation, and consistent reinforcement of a positive, high-expectations school culture aligned with campus and district vision.
  • Promote and model core values, restorative practices, and positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) to create a respectful and productive learning environment.
  • Actively support and model the implementation of the Lasting Leadership Values (LLV) and foster a campus culture for Determined Destiny Culture (DDC).
  • Organize and oversee school-wide cultural events, traditions, and recognition programs that celebrate student achievements and foster a strong sense of community.
  • Maintain a highly visible and active presence throughout the school day (e.g., hallways, common areas, lunch, dismissal) to build relationships and monitor student behavior.

B. Discipline & Behavior Management
  • Manage student disciplinary processes, including investigations, consequence assignment, parent conferences, and maintaining accurate records in compliance with district policy and state regulations.
  • Implement conflict resolution strategies to effectively address student misbehavior and teach self-regulation skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement effective classroom management strategies and provide targeted support for individual student behavior plans.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development for staff on behavior management, de-escalation techniques, and positive intervention strategies such as restorative practices.

C. Campus Safety & Security
  • Oversee daily campus safety protocols, including emergency procedures, drills, and comprehensive student supervision plans.
  • Collaborate closely with the Campus Principal and district safety personnel to ensure a secure and protective school environment for all students and staff.
  • Respond promptly to and manage campus incidents, ensuring appropriate documentation and effective communication with relevant parties.

D. Attendance Management
  • Monitor student attendance data, proactively identify patterns of absenteeism, and implement strategic interventions to improve daily attendance rates.
  • Collaborate with families, counselors, and social workers to address chronic absenteeism and provide necessary support and resources.
  • Ensure full compliance with state attendance laws and established district policies.

E. Student Recruitment & Retention
  • Develop and implement campus-level strategies to attract and retain students, collaborating effectively with broader district recruitment efforts.
  • Positively represent the campus to prospective families and community members, showcasing the school's strengths and culture.
  • Support the enrollment process, ensuring a welcoming and smooth experience for new students and their families.

F. Campus Testing Coordination
  • Serve as the primary Campus Testing Coordinator, overseeing all aspects of state-mandated and local assessments.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of all testing materials and data in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate the planning, scheduling, and logistics of all campus testing administrations, including test dates, times, breaks, and make-up testing.
  • Train test administrators, proctors, and other campus personnel on testing procedures, security protocols, and accommodation policies.
  • Oversee the receipt, distribution, inventory, and secure return of all testing materials.
  • Ensure all eligible students, including those with special education services or who are English learners (EB students), are tested with appropriate and allowed accommodations.
  • Monitor test administrations to ensure adherence to procedures and respond to any issues or irregularities, reporting suspected violations to the district coordinator.
  • Ensure accurate student data (e.g., score codes, accommodations) is entered and verified in relevant systems (e.g., TIDE, DEI).
  • Serve as a liaison between the campus and the District Testing Coordinator for communication and proper implementation of assessment guidelines.

G. Parent & Community Engagement
  • Build strong, positive, and collaborative relationships with parents and guardians, serving as a primary point of contact for cultural, disciplinary, and testing-related matters.
  • Communicate effectively and transparently with families regarding student behavior, attendance, school culture initiatives, and testing requirements/results.
  • Engage actively with community organizations to leverage external resources and support for students and families.

H. Leadership & Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with the Campus Principal and administrative team to achieve campus goals and support the overall instructional vision and strategic priorities.
  • Participate actively in campus leadership team meetings, contributing meaningfully to strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned support staff (e.g., campus monitors, campus registrars, if applicable).
  • Serve as a consistent role model for students and staff, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to continuous improvement.

IV. Special Knowledge & Skills
  • Behavioral Expertise: Deep understanding of child and adolescent development, effective behavior management strategies, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Cultural Leadership: Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and sustain a positive, high-expectations school culture; experience in implementing core leadership values and fostering cultural frameworks (e.g., LLV, DDC).
  • Campus Testing Coordination: Thorough knowledge of state and local assessment programs (e.g., STAAR, TELPAS, EOC, TSI, SAT/ACT, AP), including administration procedures, security protocols, and accommodation policies.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, staff, and community members; ability to interpret and convey complex testing procedures.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze and interpret student behavior, attendance, and assessment data to inform interventions and planning.
  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex situations effectively, especially high-stakes testing logistics.
  • Relationship Building: Exceptional interpersonal skills to build rapport, trust, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Conflict Resolution: Skilled in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Technology Proficiency: Competency in using relevant digital tools and platforms for record-keeping, communication, and testing administration (e.g., TIDE, DEI, Schoolmint, FAFSA, ApplyTexas, Accuplacer, College Board, SIS systems).
  • Compliance & Security: Strong understanding of test security requirements, confidentiality, and proper handling of secure testing materials.
  • Bilingualism (Preferred): Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish is highly desirable.

  • Support student recruitment and robust family engagement efforts.
  • Encourage and actively participate in building strong campus-community connections and partnerships.

VII. Working Conditions
Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  • Maintain emotional composure and professionalism under stress.
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and active supervision.
  • Occasional lifting and handling of school materials or equipment (up to 25 pounds).
  • Extended hours may be required during peak seasons or for evening/weekend events, especially during testing windows.
  • Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor school environments.

VIII. Other Requirements

  • Maintain professional and collaborative working relationships across campus and district teams.
  • Stay current with best practices in education, student culture, behavior management, and relevant legal updates, including all changes to state and federal assessment regulations.
  • Submit all required reports and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
