Fiscal Analyst The City of Alexandria is located in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington and Fairfax counties. With a population of approximately 150,000 and a land area of 15.75 square miles, Alexandria is the seventh largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Alexandria has a charming waterfront and is a unique and historic place to live and work

What we do and how we do it is driven by our 4 Guiding Principles: Aligning the work we do with our strategic plan Executing against our strategy and ensuring accountability for our results Promoting and encouraging a culture of leadership and ownership at all levels of the organization Promoting a culture of service excellence, creativity and entrepreneurship An Overview A Fiscal Analyst performs analytical work involving the formulation of budget estimates, including development of fund requirements to support operating programs, and the execution of approved budgets by City program officials and/or contractors. An incumbent in this class coordinates reimbursement activities for a department and provides program controls over the obligation and expenditure of funds or plans.

The work involves the gathering of grant information and data for division grant applications and reports. An incumbent in the Fiscal Analyst class works in close collaboration with program directors to gather information for the budget, grant applications and other financial management projects. The work of a Fiscal Analyst differs from a Fiscal Officer in the depth and breadth of assignments and the degree of involvement of the supervisor in the conceptualization and development of new initiatives.

Work progress and accomplishment are regularly reviewed and completed work is assessed, evaluated and redirected, if necessary. Written guidelines are available for use in most City/State financial management matters. The incumbent may develop local procedures for use in various other program matters.
