Job description

Position Overview: Material Cost Book Coordinator

Location : Auburn Hills, Michigan USA

Duration : Long term Contract role

The Material Cost Book Coordinator is responsible for managing, validating, and maintaining material cost data across multiple automotive programs. This role ensures that project cost books accurately reflect the Bill of Materials (BOM) and align with current engineering designs, manufacturing processes, and supplier cost inputs. The position plays a critical role in Total Product Cost (TPC) tracking, reporting, and cost optimization for Stellantis vehicle programs.

The coordinator works cross-functionally with Engineering, Cost Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Project Management teams while supporting casting, stamping, injection molding, and other automotive manufacturing processes

Key Responsibilities (What the Candidate Will Do)

Maintain and Manage Project Cost Books

Create, update, and maintain material cost books for multiple vehicle programs simultaneously.

Ensure cost books accurately reflect current BOM, design releases, and engineering changes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with Engineering teams to validate part designs and ensure material cost alignment.

Coordinate with Cost Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing teams to capture the most up-to-date cost assumptions and supplier data.

Cost Analysis & Validation

Perform multi-commodity costing covering castings, stampings, injection-molded parts, and assemblies.

Develop and validate variable and tooling cost models using activity-based costing or “should-cost” methodologies.

Monthly Cost Reporting & Presentations

Prepare and present Total Product Cost (TPC) status and month-over-month cost evolution to stakeholders.

Highlight variances, risks, cost drivers, and improvement opportunities.

Project & Program Cost Tracking

Support project planning and cost tracking across multiple programs with tight deadlines.

Ensure alignment between cost targets, timing plans, and program milestones.

Data Management & Tools Usage

Use Excel and IT systems to analyze, consolidate, and report cost data.

Work with NX and Teamcenter to validate design and BOM information.

Continuous Cost Improvement

Support cost reduction initiatives and identify opportunities for savings through design, sourcing, or process optimization.

Contribute to standardization of costing methodologies across programs.

Essential Technical Skills

Strong analytical and synthesis mindset

Advanced Excel proficiency and comfort with IT systems

Project management and planning skills

Multi-commodity costing expertise

Working proficiency in English

Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Mandatory Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, or Engineering

Minimum 5 years of experience in Manufacturing & Costing

Total experience: 10+ years

Experience in design, release, processing, or cost development roles

Strong understanding of automotive production methods and development processes

Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously

Ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team

Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder management skills

Preferred / Advantageous Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an advanced degree in Business

Experience with NX and Teamcenter

Activity-based costing or cost model development experience

Prior automotive “should-cost” or cost reduction experience

Experience in Tier-1, Tier-2 suppliers or passenger vehicle OEMs

High flexibility and comfort working in a fast-paced environment
