Overview. Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Exercise Physiologist and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Medical Services Manager and Occupational Medical Director, this position will be responsible for development and implementation of the Medical Surveillance Fitness Program for Emergency Services and Protective Force Personnel. This position provides preventive and rehabilitative institutional occupational safety and health services and programming, including, but not limited to, institutional wellness motivational programs, health and wellness education classes and events, injury prevention training, and surveillance medical programming.

Successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of and experience with exercise testing related to cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and movement.
  • Tactical knowledge and experience in the preparation and programming of periodized training programs as well as developing health and wellness programs for the tactical and occupational athlete.
  • The ability to oversee and design programs for a wide range of demographics including, but not limited to Exercise, Injury, Chronic Disease Prevention and Management of the tactical and occupational athlete.
  • Experience in the preparation and presentation of health and fitness related scientific research and its practical application to a diverse audience.
  • Experience providing supervision and instruction to members in a health and fitness facility and/or corporate wellness setting.
  • Knowledge of health and fitness-related federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures with occupational health and safety practices including protection of patient health information.
  • Familiarity with 10 Code of Federal Regulation 1046, Medical, Physical Readiness, Training, and Access Authorization Standards for Protective Force Personnel and National Fire Protection Association 1580, Standard for Emergency Responder Occupational Health and Wellness.
  • Ability to foster a high-level of operational excellence, including flexibility in work schedule to meet the needs of target population.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology with five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in exercise testing.
  • Exercise Physiology certification from American College of Sports Medicine or American Society of Exercise Physiology.
  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR, AED.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
