Job description

Bear Event Design is a creative event design and décor firm serving events across Denver and the Rocky Mountain region. Our work spans corporate events, experiential activations, weddings, social celebrations, and custom environments where high-impact design depends on thoughtful, hands-on execution.
We are seeking a skilled, versatile, and highly capable Fabricator to bring our clients’ custom event elements to life. This is one of Bear’s most hands-on roles, responsible for turning creative concepts into physical builds that are beautiful, functional, durable, and ready for installation.
This role works closely with our Design, Creative, Graphics, Floral, Warehouse, and Production teams. You will operate and maintain our CNC machine, manage post-processing and assembly of CNC-cut elements, and fabricate across a wide range of materials, finishes, and scenic production needs.
This is primarily an in-shop role, with occasional on-site support for larger installs, strikes, or custom builds that require fabrication expertise.
Your responsibilities:
  • Build custom sets, props, scenic elements, structural pieces, and event-specific fabrication projects from design through completion
  • Translate creative direction, renderings, sketches, and production notes into physical builds that are executable, durable, and aligned with the design intent
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Creative, Graphics, Floral, and external suppliers to plan, build, paint, finish, and prepare custom elements for events
  • Able to manage multiple projects at different stages, prioritizing deadlines, shifting needs, and production timelines without losing quality or momentum
  • Fabricate using a wide range of materials, including wood, MDF, acrylic, foam, scenic materials, graphics substrates, hardware, and continue to research materials and techniques to improve our fabrication over time.
  • Operate CNC machine, including loading files, starting jobs, changing bits, monitoring cuts, maintaining the machine, and troubleshooting basic operational issues.
  • Lead and delegate tasks to Production Associates, helping maintain standards and ensure efficient completion of fabrication projects
  • Continuously improve fabrication processes, shop organization, build quality, and team efficiency as Bear expands its custom production capabilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and productive fabrication area, following proper shop safety practices. Assist with material planning, purchasing needs, and shop readiness for upcoming builds
  • Occasionally support larger event installations and strikes, helping ensure custom elements are installed efficiently, safely, and according to the design plan

Who you are:
  • Hands-on, resourceful, and comfortable building real things in a fast-moving creative production environment
  • Able to look at a creative vision and understand how to make it physically work
  • Highly skilled with tools, materials, fabrication methods, finishing techniques, and practical problem-solving
  • Proactive, adaptable problem solver who identifies issues early and develops solutions, with the ability to move quickly between materials, project types, finishes, and deadlines
  • Steady under pressure with a strong sense of urgency, especially when event deadlines are approaching. Can be proud of the details, but realistic about timelines, materials, and what it takes to get the job done
  • Comfortable leading a small team, giving direction, and maintaining quality standards without overcomplicating the process
  • Collaborative, communicative, and able to work well across departments and teams

Requirements:
  • 4+ years of hands-on fabrication, scenic production, wood shop, set building, prop building, event production, or related experience
  • Experience operating CNC equipment, including loading files, running jobs, changing bits, monitoring production, and maintaining the machine (CAD/CAM experience a plus)
  • Experience working with a wide range of materials and build types, including scenic, structural, decorative, and event-specific fabrication
  • Strong working knowledge of shop tools, fabrication equipment, materials, hardware, adhesives, finishes, and safe work practices
  • Ability to read and interpret renderings, sketches, basic plans, measurements, production notes, and installation requirements
  • Computer literacy and comfort using project management tools, digital files, email, and internal communication systems
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
