Salary:

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting the medical staff in delivering high-quality infusion therapy services by assisting with patient preparation, documentation, administrative tasks, and clinical support. Your contributions will help ensure efficient operations and a safe, comfortable environment for patients receiving intravenous treatments.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare patients for treatment by taking vital signs, weight, and medical histories and reporting to infusion nurse for further evaluation.
  • Assist with observing patients for adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to nursing staff.
  • Assist in specimen collection, labeling, and transport, if required.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the infusion area.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Assist with ordering and proper stocking of supplies.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and pharmacy regarding medication ordering.
  • Assist patients with documentation needs.
  • Greet patients, answer phone calls, and handle correspondence.
  • Update and maintain electronic health records (EHR) as required.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.
  • Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies and functions. Understanding ofdocumentation standards.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies and materials needed for medical treatment.
  • Knowledge of disease process and treatment options.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, empathy, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond calmly in emergency situations and support patient comfort.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in an infusion center, oncology, or outpatient treatment setting is highly desirable.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to sit, perform data entry and view computer screen for long periods at a time.
  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
  • Daily standing, walking, bending, and maneuvering.
  • May require lifting up to 50 pounds or more to transfer and/or turn patient with and without assistive devices.


Travel:

Travel may be required.

Scheduled Working Hours:
Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays. Hours may vary depending upon the needs of the position, department, and clinic.
