What is an Epic Cadence manager?

An Epic Cadence Manager is a healthcare IT professional responsible for overseeing the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of Epic Cadence, which is Epic Systems' scheduling and patient access module. They manage teams, coordinate system upgrades, ensure workflow alignment, and serve as a liaison between clinical staff, IT, and Epic support. Their role is critical in ensuring efficient appointment scheduling, patient flow, and resource utilization within healthcare organizations. They may also provide training and support to end-users to maximize the effectiveness of the Epic Cadence system.

How does an Epic Cadence manager typically collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to optimize scheduling workflows?

An Epic Cadence Manager works closely with both clinical and administrative staff to ensure that scheduling workflows within the Epic system are efficient and meet the needs of the organization. This involves gathering feedback from end-users, analyzing workflow bottlenecks, and configuring the Cadence module to support patient access and provider schedules. Regular meetings with stakeholders, conducting training sessions, and providing ongoing support are also key parts of the role. Effective communication and a proactive approach help bridge gaps between IT and operational teams, resulting in smoother scheduling processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Epic Cadence manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Epic Cadence Manager, you need strong knowledge of healthcare scheduling workflows, experience with Epic Cadence software, and often a bachelor's degree in a related field. Epic Cadence Certification and proficiency with EMR systems and project management tools are typically required. Excellent leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders. These skills ensure the efficient implementation and optimization of scheduling systems, directly impacting patient access and operational workflows.
