BRCOT is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Small Engine and Power Sports Repair Instructor to teach high school students the technical skills required for careers in equipment repair and the power sports industry. Students in the program are primarily 11th- and 12th-graders, with some 10th-graders, who are preparing for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, or postsecondary training. This is a new program starting on the fall of 2026
The instructor will deliver both classroom and hands-on shop instruction covering the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of small engines and power sports equipment such as lawn and garden equipment, ATVs, snowmobiles, and related machinery.
In addition to instruction, the instructor is responsible for evaluating student performance, maintaining student records, and communicating with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver instruction in small engine and power sports repair, including diagnostics, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide hands-on shop instruction using industry tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Teach students repair and maintenance of equipment such as lawn and garden equipment, snowmobiles, ATVs, and other small engine systems.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state CTE standards and industry practices.
  • Evaluate student learning through assignments, shop projects, and assessments.
  • Maintain accurate student grades, attendance, and records.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and industry-standard shop environment.
  • Reinforce workplace safety, professionalism, and employability skills.
  • Collaborate with school administration, instructors, and industry partners to support program development.
  • Participate in required faculty meetings, professional development, and program advisory committee activities.

Qualifications
  • Significant experience in small engine repair, outdoor power equipment repair, or powersports service.
  • Strong knowledge of engine diagnostics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and repair procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students in a hands-on learning environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to obtain or hold an appropriate state Career & Technical Education teaching certification

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience repairing ATVs, snowmobiles, motorcycles, or other powersports equipment.
  • Industry certifications related to small engine or powersports repair.
  • Previous experience teaching, mentoring, or training others.
