General Summary:
Under the direction of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)/Radiology Information System (RIS) Administrator, the PACS/RIS Coordinator is responsible for the daily operational functions of the PACS system and workstations throughout the organization. This includes providing and supervising daily system monitoring, system troubleshooting, training for new and ongoing user competency assessment, quality control and performance monitoring, study monitoring and patient information management. Assists in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures, providing proactive technical documentation and management reporting for the PACS system. Coordinates activities related to the PACS Systems with the Information Systems Department and Diagnostic Imaging Services. As a Radiology Information Systems superuser the coordinator will educate, train and assist with the optimal utilization of the EPIC Radiant RIS system.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide PACS/RIS user training for new users or existing users, as needed. Plan and coordinate training with personnel. Participate in System Administrator and QC training provided for PACS by Vendor; remaining current in new versions and techniques.
2. Become familiar with all the EPIC Radiant resource material provided to DI and assist the Radiant Analysts in educating the staff and ensuring that the tools are being used properly.
3. Perform daily system monitoring of scheduled PACS jobs, using monitoring tools; a) Scheduled Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) software; b) HSM storage level and assuring that storage levels of all Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) partitions and Library are controlled appropriately; c) PACS Server hardware; d) RAID;e) Event LogsNotify Information Services (IS) for resolution of unknown errors as appropriate. Notify the PACS, PACS-related vendors and Radiant Analysts of any problems that arise and work collaboratively to solve those problems.
4. Monitor unmatched studies, correcting study using Patient Management Tool, when patient information is wrong, and for creating new patients, changing patient information.
5. Analyze and notify PACS/RIS Administrator when hardware problems associated with vendor supplied hardware require vendor personnel involvement and resolution. Follows up with vender as directed, analyzing and solving hardware problems related to hardware supplied by organization.
6. Analyze and work with IS, Biomedical, and vendor personnel to resolve software communication problems, including modality communication problems, RIS communication problems, system calibrations, and planned or preventative maintenance on equipment, etc.
7. Submit requests to PACS/RIS Administrator for adding/changing/deleting users on PACS Server, including adding new users into appropriate user group, granting appropriate permissions, changing user profiles, deleting users, and maintaining appropriate documentation for all user management functions.
8. Participate in Vendor training for Quality Control (QC) / Performance Improvement procedures; working collaboratively with IS and Operations Manager in developing and implementing a Quality Control and Performance Improvement program.
9. Coordinate with IS staff in primary long-term and intermediate storage media management, notifying, planning, and coordinating installation with IS and Vendor personnel prior to contracting and purchase of new imaging equipment as appropriate.
10. Plan and coordinate software upgrades with IS, Diagnostic Imaging Administration, and vendor personnel; Track and notify IS and Vendor personnel when modality software upgrades, RIS/HIS system software upgrades, or other related information system software upgrades are required.
11. Assists Diagnostic Imaging Administration and IS staff in developing and implementing policies and procedures to assure that system monitoring is effective. Develop and maintain materials and records (attendance, etc.) for user training; Develop and provide regular management reports to Diagnostic Imaging Administration and Information Services.
12. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities
