The Engineering Assistant II is an experienced professional with knowledge of and some experience with maintaining electrical distribution standards. This position is responsible for assisting the distribution standards engineers in evaluating and approving material along with maintaining and reviewing the Distribution Construction Manual used on Cleco's distribution system. Works with distribution standards engineers, distribution operations personnel, and distribution engineering personnel to understand the needs and identify improvements in Cleco's distribution standards
Key Responsibilities
  • Champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, diversity and inclusion, customer service, and operational excellence.
  • Updates and maintains Cleco's Distribution Construction Manual while collaborating with distribution engineering personnel and distribution operations personnel to ensure that the equipment within Cleco's distribution standards meets the needs of Cleco's distribution system.
  • Works closely with material and equipment vendors to acquire pricing, part numbers, and current product specifications used on Cleco's distribution system.
  • Assists distribution operations personnel by providing technical information and support to ensure their awareness of new distribution standards, specifications, procedures and any changes in the Distribution Construction Manual.
  • Assists distribution standards engineers in creating new Compatible Units and revising existing Compatible Units due to errors or changes in labor/material requirements.
  • Works with stores and purchasing personnel to add new material and update existing material in SAP to ensure that all necessary material is available to distribution engineering and distribution operations.
  • Assists distribution standards engineers in performing project inspections to ensure that the project construction is in compliance with Cleco's distribution construction standards.

Qualifications
Required Education, Skills & Experience
  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field
  • 0-3+ years of related experience
  • Preferred experience in mechanical and computer aided drafting and design (CADD)
  • Business acumen pertaining to the Utility industry
  • Knowledge of leading practices for their practice area
  • Planning and project management skills
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
  • Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner
