Job description

Responsible for managing and directing an assigned group of company drivers and overseeing contractor relations. This must be done within the established policies and procedures of the company. The key responsibility of a driver manager is to foster proactive communication to help facilitate the needs of the driver and company objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, safety, training, performance metrics, maintenance, and pay. The Driver Manager must be accessible to an assigned group of drivers by phone, e-mail, text, or Mobile Communications system. Driver and contractor management is the primary emphasis, but the position will also assist with managing day-to-day activities within the service center. Communicate with internal and external customers as needed.

Salary: $56,000-$82,000

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Main responsibility is to be the direct line communication and management of drivers

  • Interview drivers to ensure job duties and expectations align from both driver and company

  • Frequent communication to make sure we are meeting drivers' expectations

  • Approve and review driver pay for accuracy

  • Ensure driver pay thresholds are met

  • Review and discuss safety analytics with driver

  • Assure Transflo scanning is current

  • Ensure all driver training certificates and expirations are current

  • Manage driver OJT and onboarding checklist reviews

  • Complete driver performance reviews

  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding driver turnover ratio

  • Meet or exceed budgeted driver count

  • Monitor accuracy of driver profiles and schedules

  • Speak-ups and People Element survey reporting

  • Work with HR (Human Resources) & safety regional managers on corrective actions and compliance occurrences

  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 2 years' experience in the direct management of personnel preferred

  • Bulk transportation preferred

Skills Required:

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills

  • Management experience preferred

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.

  • Ability to direct and manage employees and contractors

  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures of the company

  • Knowledge of Federal DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations

  • Must be able to work with interruptions and deadlines

  • Must be able to effectively interact with internal and external customers

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Majority of time will be spent at the service center- in the office and on the yard

  • Flexibility in scheduled hours and days worked is required

  • Occasional weekend work and non-business hours availability is required

  • Occasional travel to other service centers as needed
