Director, Software Engineer Finance Tech - (Remote Eligible)

As a Capital One Director of Software Engineering, you'll work on everything from forward‑looking forecasting frameworks and strategic planning tools to high‑throughput data engineering pipelines, back‑end systems, and machine learning models using the latest techniques in Big Data. You will sit at the intersection of core business strategy and advanced technology, leading teams to build next‑generation data infrastructure side‑by‑side with quantitative data scientists and business leaders. You'll bring solid experience in emerging and traditional data technologies, cloud platforms, and analytical disciplines such as: Python, SQL, Spark, Scala, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS/Cloud Infrastructure, Apache Airflow, MLOps, machine learning frameworks, and large‑scale enterprise data systems, to name a few.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and grow multiple forward‑thinking teams of software, data, and platform engineers.
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation.
  • Partner with product managers, data scientists, and system architects to translate complex business strategies into executable technical intent.
  • Continuously elevate engineering practices, pioneering spec‑driven and intent‑driven architectures to minimize friction and maximize build quality.
  • Design, implement, and support scalable backend solutions, effectively integrating custom data pipelines with COTS platforms and custom software capabilities, using advanced CI/CD frameworks.
  • Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of analytics engines and data infrastructure.
  • Bring a passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with emerging agentic frameworks, participating in technology communities, and mentoring members of the broader engineering ecosystem.
  • Encourage innovation, the implementation of cutting‑edge technologies, inclusion, outside‑the‑box thinking, and highly autonomous, distributed teamwork.
  • Collaborate across engineering organizations to optimize system throughput, streamline complex dependencies, and accelerate the delivery of intelligent capabilities.
  • Lead efforts to design and deploy highly available, cloud‑native solutions, data systems, and automated frameworks into AWS environments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience in people management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or Master's Degree in Software Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in Agile practices
  • Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
