Job description

As the Director, Software Engineering, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for software engineering teams, driving the delivery of secure, scalable, and innovative technology solutions that support Homewood Health's business objectives. 

What You'll Be Doing 

  • Provide leadership for the planning, execution, and delivery of software development initiatives across assigned engineering teams.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, delivery processes, and governance practices that support quality, predictability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee software quality, platform reliability, production support, incident management, and operational performance.
  • Monitor key delivery and technology metrics to identify risks, improve outcomes, and ensure business objectives are achieved.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for technical and operational challenges.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and team members.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing culture aligned with Homewood's values.
  • Identify organizational capability gaps and implement development strategies to strengthen technical and leadership competencies.
  • Support organizational change initiatives and contribute to the ongoing evolution and maturity of the Digital Solutions division.
  • Collaborate with Product, PMO, Clinical Operations, and other business leaders to support strategic planning, prioritization, and successful delivery of initiatives.
  • Communicate technical strategies, risks, dependencies, and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and regulatory requirements within a highly regulated environment.
  • Manage vendor and third-party technology relationships, including service performance, integration oversight, and risk management.
  • Represent Digital Solutions in executive reporting, due diligence activities, and RFP/RFI processes.
  • Partner with the EVP & CTO and Architecture team to define engineering strategy, standards, and best practices.
  • Evaluate technology investments, modernization opportunities, and build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Champion engineering practices that support scalability, security, maintainability, and long-term business objectives.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.

What We’re Looking For 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in software engineering, technology delivery, or related technical roles, including at least 4 years of people leadership experience leading software engineers, engineering managers, or technical teams.
  • Proven experience delivering and supporting enterprise-scale software platforms and digital solutions, with a strong track record of partnering with project, program, or portfolio management functions.
  • Experience within healthcare, insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries is preferred.
  • Experience leading organizational growth, transformation, or scaling initiatives is considered an asset.
