Position Description:

Develops, designs, implements, and supports applications running within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. Develops and oversees software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation. Develops applications, components, and subsystems to support division-wide complex projects. Creates client-facing software application components using technology tools -- Java, Spark, Python, SQL, Angular, Kafka, REST APIs, Elastic MapReduce (EMR), Glue, Hive EC2, Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Simple Storage Service (S3), Lambda, Relational Database Service (RDS), Simple Notification Service (SNS), CloudWatch, Simple Queue Service (SQS), Power BI, Parquet, JSON, XML, Avro, Tableau, Kibana, Shell Scripts, Jenkins, and Git. Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms. Draws on in-depth knowledge of the business or function to provide business unit-wide solutions by developing complex, multi-faceted software applications. Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the business unit and participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve business-unit-wide solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the functional level.
  • Participates in high-level, cross- functional architecture design teams.
  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.
  • Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.
  • Consults on deployment of major project deliverables.
  • Consults on the documentation of major technology application.
  • Oversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.
  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.
  • Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.
  • Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies.
  • Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.
  • Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.
  • Identifies and plans for future resource needs.
  • Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and building enterprise-grade, scalable, fault tolerant, low-latency data solutions in financial services environment, using AWS, Apache Spark, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Java, and Python.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and building enterprise-grade, scalable, fault tolerant, low-latency data solutions in financial services environment, using AWS, Apache Spark, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Java, and Python.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") designing and developing data acquisition platforms to ingest large volumes of market, digital, and private asset data, using programming languages (Apache Spark, Python, Java, Scala, and Angular) and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) methodologies in AWS Cloud.
  • DE migrating on-premises Java applications and Oracle database platforms to AWS, using S3, Cloud Formation templates, EMR, Lambda, and RDS; and performing version control and Continuous Integration (CI) of build and deploy, using Git, Jenkins, and Bitbucket.
  • DE implementing Kafka consumer and producer logic to publish and read messages with Kafka topics, using Python and Java; and delivering near real-time data in an Agile environment using AWS services (Lambda, RDS, S3, and EKS).
  • DE leading and managing digital transformation programs aligned with use-centric business growth across extensive technical domains -- mainframes, distributed systems, and Cloud platforms (AWS); performing Agile software project management; performing software bug fixes, enhancements, and clearing backlogs using JIRA; and performing automation testing using Selenium, Cucumber, Rest Assured, and JMeter.
