Job description

Position Summary:
The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of customs operations, including brokerage, transportation, customer service, and administrative functions within their regional area.  This role ensures compliance with US Customs and Broder Protection (CBP) regulations, drives operational efficiency, achieves Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), regional financial goals and fosters strong client relationships.  The Director will lead a team of licensed brokers and supporting staff, ensure policies and SOP’s are followed, collaborate cross-functionally to support the company’s are brokerage operations within the organization. This position will be based in Miami, FL.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of licensed customs brokers and operational staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align operations with company financial and service goals.
  • Address any deficiencies immediately, with appropriate follow-up and process adjustments to protect the companies interests.   
  • Participate in local and/or national trade associations representing the company in key vertical segments.

 
Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with regulations, policies and procedures. 
  • Implement and oversee key audits and implement necessary operational adjustments.
  • Partner with Regulatory and Trade Services to ensure a high level of service and capabilities.

 
Operational Excellence

  • Monitor service levels to ensure service, billing and compliance KPI’s are achieved. 
  • As needed, adjust local/regional processes to improve speed, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) across regional functions.
  • Strategically partner with peer operational directors to support the larger team and customer base.

 
Client Relations & Business Development

  • Serve as a senior point of contact for key clients regarding operations. 
  • Support sales and account management teams in developing solutions for clients.
  • Support the onboarding of new clients and monitoring of service levels, participate in business reviews with key clients. 

 
Technology & Innovation

  • Support and adopt new technology solutions to streamline processes and align with the companies automation efforts.
  • Support IT and Sales to implement technological integration with clients.

 
Qualifications:

  • Licensed U.S. Customs Broker (required).
  • 8-10 years management experience in logistics, supply chain, customs brokerage or related field(s). 
  • Deep understanding of international and customs regulations and compliance.
  • Proven track record of managing large teams and complex operations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead changes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Strong client-facing skills and business acumen.
  • Experience working with multinational clients and global trade regulations.
  • Cargowise experience is a plus
