The Charter School for Applied Technologies (CSAT) opened its doors in 2001 as a 700-student school serving grades K-6. Today, CSAT is a busy campus consisting of three distinct buildings (Elementary, Middle and High Schools), that host approximately 2,300 students from 19 different school districts throughout WNY.

Job Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for upholding well-maintained and safe school facilities for CSAT staff and students. Basic responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, identifying the need for repairs, and ensuring that daily operations run smoothly. The Maintenance Mechanic needs to be able to work on their feet for long periods, and has a keen eye for detail.
Essential Job Duties
  • Work with and around staff and students, and maintain a harmonious relationship with co-workers, administration, staff, and students.
  • Operate, install, and maintain heating, plumbing, and electrical equipment, sprinkler systems, and all other equipment.
  • Handle emergencies with any system, i.e., fire and burglar alarms, electrical, heating, air conditioning, pneumatic systems, and any other systems.
  • Respond to calls regarding security, snow removal, or emergency repairs on weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Maintain all school buildings and school grounds including parking lots, remove excess sand, trash, and leaves as needed.
  • Work inside or outside performing such duties as snow removal, maintaining culverts, storm drains, roof drains, and any other duties required.
  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance on motorized vehicles and equipment as needed.
  • Demonstrate positive work habits by showing initiative, cooperation, dependability, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Demonstrate responsible behavior regarding attendance and work schedule.
  • Perform in a professional manner when interacting with students, parents, faculty, administration, and co-workers.
  • Follow the guidelines of confidentiality as established by the school district.
  • Attend and participate in relevant training sessions, meetings and professional growth activities as requested and/or required.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as requested by the supervisor.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, kneel and walk up to 8 hours per day
  • Must be able to operate custodial equipment and work in the presence of mechanical systems, cleaning chemicals, and equipment noise
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds

Qualifications, Education, and Experience
  • At least 5 years of building maintenance/trades experience, technical, or trade education preferred
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and practices used in repair, occupational hazards, and safety precautions
  • Ability to handle equipment, tools and materials used in maintenance
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver's license
  • Minimum education of High School Diploma or GED required

POSITION STATUS: Full-time
WORK HOURS: 7:00 - 3:30
SALARY RANGE: $44,000 - $50,000
