Here's how a Materials Manager for PCL Industrial Construction Co. within US PICCo contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
  • Oversight of training and mentoring for all project assigned material staff, and as required other project staff, trade supervision, and tradespeople on department procedures, project plans, and systems.
  • Assesses contract documents, client process and system requirements, PCL procedural and system requirements, and associated risks. Develops project specific material management plans and works with internal/external teams to reach agreement, gain acceptance, and implement project plans.
  • Oversight of project storage facilities and management systems in alignment with project plans and agreements with project management. Audits to ensure facilities are set up and functioning according to approved plans.
  • Oversight of material planning on projects and identifies the best method for supply, site management, and mitigation of surplus material. Identifies risks during the planning phase and sets rules on requisition lead times and frequencies.
  • Submits approved requisitions to procurement for action. For client/engineer supplied materials, identifies and gains agreement on requirements for purchase order information and works with them to resolve any issues.
  • Oversight of preventative (PM), repairs, and re-certifications on construction equipment and associated c transactions. Ensures the timely availability of receiving and issuing data for permanent materials equipment to mechanical project coordinator to support preservation activities.
  • Oversight of development and implementation of demobilization and surplus material plans with the client and project team. Oversight of all shipping, transfer, demobilization, and surplus materials processes in alignment with procedures, work instructions, and project plans. Assists project team and client in determining priorities for site demobilization, surplus material disposition, and liquidation.
  • Assesses contract documents for client reporting requirements and schedules. Determines reporting formats and frequencies. Develops reports and distribution lists/ schedules to satisfy internal and external requirements and incorporates in project plans.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma and/or postsecondary diploma/degree in a related discipline (e.g., supply chain management, procurement, logistics, warehouse distribution).
  • 8 years of progressive and related industry experience in supply chain management, logistics, and/or warehouse distribution on large/very large construction projects preferred.
  • 5 years of progressive leadership and management experience.
  • Advanced construction knowledge in a broader range of specifications, drawings, bills of material, methods, and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of commonly used construction materials, permanent/ nonpermanent materials, services, tools, and equipment. Works with project/district management to implement improvements to material supply on the project.
  • Extensive knowledge of project logistics, toolcrib, warehouse, laydown setup, organization, and best practices. Can forecast overall project requirements, and design layouts and incorporate them into project plans.
  • Extensive knowledge of supply chain process, project life cycle, materials management best practices, PCL procedures, and risk. Can assess owner contract, process and systems requirements, compare them with PCL requirements, and negotiate agreements on path forward for implementation on the project.
