How does a Contract Recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers and internal teams during the recruitment process?

A Contract Recruiter works closely with hiring managers and HR teams to understand the specific needs and requirements for each open position. They often conduct intake meetings to define the ideal candidate profile, clarify timelines, and set expectations. Throughout the search, Contract Recruiters provide regular updates, coordinate interviews, and gather feedback from stakeholders to ensure alignment and a streamlined hiring process. Effective communication and adaptability are key, as contract recruiters must quickly adapt to different teams and company cultures.

What does a contract recruiter do?

A contract recruiter is responsible for sourcing, screening, and hiring temporary or project-based candidates for organizations. They often work with staffing agencies or internal HR teams to fill specific roles quickly, using tools like applicant tracking systems and maintaining relationships with potential candidates. Their work typically involves managing the recruitment process from job posting to onboarding within a set contract period.

How much do recruiters make per contract?

Contract recruiters typically earn between $20 and $60 per hour, depending on experience, industry, and location. Some may work on a fixed project fee or a percentage of the candidate's first-year salary, especially in specialized fields or high-demand markets.

What are contract recruiters?

Contract recruiters are professionals hired on a temporary basis to help organizations find and hire qualified candidates for open positions. Unlike permanent, in-house recruiters, contract recruiters typically work for a set period or until specific hiring goals are met. They may be brought in during periods of rapid growth, seasonal hiring needs, or to fill specialized roles. Contract recruiters often work independently or through staffing agencies and can provide expertise in sourcing, screening, and interviewing candidates.

What is the 3 month rule for jobs?

The 3 month rule for jobs generally refers to the idea that employers prefer candidates to stay in a position for at least three months before considering a move or change. For contract recruiters, this period often aligns with the typical duration of short-term contracts, allowing time to evaluate candidate fit and performance before transitioning or extending assignments.

What Is a Contract Recruiter?

Contract recruiters work for their clients as independent contractors rather than in-house HR employees. They may be self-employed or work for a recruiting firm. As a contract recruiter, your responsibilities and duties include searching for the most qualified candidates for a job, conducting initial interviews, and serving as the liaison between the candidate and the hiring manager through contract signing. You also help with resumes and coach prospective hires for their interviews. You may work with the HR team on the hiring side as well as with the prospective employee.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Recruiter, you need expertise in talent sourcing, candidate evaluation, and a solid understanding of recruitment processes, typically supported by experience in HR or staffing. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), recruiting platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and sometimes relevant certifications such as AIRS or SHRM are beneficial. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and strong organizational abilities help you build relationships and manage multiple requisitions efficiently. These skills ensure you can quickly identify and secure top talent to meet client needs in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

To become a contract recruiter, gain experience in recruiting or human resources, develop strong communication and sourcing skills, and familiarize yourself with applicant tracking systems and recruiting tools. Many contract recruiters have a background in staffing, and some obtain certifications like the Certified Staffing Professional (CSP) to enhance credibility. Building a network and understanding client needs are also important for success in contract recruiting roles.

  • Manage candidate communications and ensure an exceptional candidate experience throughout the recruiting process

  • Conduct candidate screenings and coordinate interviews with hiring teams

  • Advise hiring managers on market trends, talent availability, compensation expectations, and recruiting best practices

  • Meet recruiting metrics expectations, pipeline activity, and hiring progress

  • Support employer branding initiatives to strengthen Quantum Space's visibility within the aerospace and engineering communities

  • Represent Quantum Space at industry events, career fairs, university recruiting events, and networking opportunities

What It Takes
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 5+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, with a strong focus on technical recruiting

  • Proven success recruiting engineers and other highly specialized technical talent

  • Experience partnering directly with hiring managers and senior leaders

  • Strong sourcing skills using LinkedIn Recruiter, Greenhouse ATS, and other recruiting platforms

  • Ability to manage multiple searches simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities

  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively across teams

  • Passion for delivering a high-quality candidate experience

Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Experience recruiting within aerospace, defense, space, robotics, advanced manufacturing, or other highly technical industries

  • Experience supporting hiring in startup or high-growth environments

  • Experience recruiting candidates requiring security clearances or working within export-controlled environments

  • Knowledge of compensation benchmarking and talent market trends

What You'll Get

Ownership - Direct impact on building the team that will shape the future of space mobility
