A Contract Recruiter works closely with hiring managers and HR teams to understand the specific needs and requirements for each open position. They often conduct intake meetings to define the ideal candidate profile, clarify timelines, and set expectations. Throughout the search, Contract Recruiters provide regular updates, coordinate interviews, and gather feedback from stakeholders to ensure alignment and a streamlined hiring process. Effective communication and adaptability are key, as contract recruiters must quickly adapt to different teams and company cultures.

What does a contract recruiter do?

A contract recruiter is responsible for sourcing, screening, and hiring temporary or project-based candidates for organizations. They often work with staffing agencies or internal HR teams to fill specific roles quickly, using tools like applicant tracking systems and maintaining relationships with potential candidates. Their work typically involves managing the recruitment process from job posting to onboarding within a set contract period.

How much do recruiters make per contract?

What are contract recruiters?

Contract recruiters are professionals hired on a temporary basis to help organizations find and hire qualified candidates for open positions. Unlike permanent, in-house recruiters, contract recruiters typically work for a set period or until specific hiring goals are met. They may be brought in during periods of rapid growth, seasonal hiring needs, or to fill specialized roles. Contract recruiters often work independently or through staffing agencies and can provide expertise in sourcing, screening, and interviewing candidates.

What is the 3 month rule for jobs?

The 3 month rule for jobs generally refers to the idea that employers prefer candidates to stay in a position for at least three months before considering a move or change. For contract recruiters, this period often aligns with the typical duration of short-term contracts, allowing time to evaluate candidate fit and performance before transitioning or extending assignments.

What Is a Contract Recruiter?

Contract recruiters work for their clients as independent contractors rather than in-house HR employees. They may be self-employed or work for a recruiting firm. As a contract recruiter, your responsibilities and duties include searching for the most qualified candidates for a job, conducting initial interviews, and serving as the liaison between the candidate and the hiring manager through contract signing. You also help with resumes and coach prospective hires for their interviews. You may work with the HR team on the hiring side as well as with the prospective employee.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Recruiter, you need expertise in talent sourcing, candidate evaluation, and a solid understanding of recruitment processes, typically supported by experience in HR or staffing. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), recruiting platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and sometimes relevant certifications such as AIRS or SHRM are beneficial. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and strong organizational abilities help you build relationships and manage multiple requisitions efficiently. These skills ensure you can quickly identify and secure top talent to meet client needs in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

Job description

Federal Markets Contract Recruiter (1099 Contract)

Must be US-Based with Federal Contracting experience (DOD/DHS/IC Agencies)

Remote, #Workfromhome

ยท Are you the type of recruiter who likes the thrill of the hunt?

ยท Can you demonstrate success in recruiting cleared technical and functional talent for DOD, DHS, and/or the Intelligence Community?

ยท Are you skilled in sourcing through multiple channels and networking with candidates to build a slate of qualified candidates for your clients?

ยท Do you have exceptional candidate control and know how to qualify and close?

If so, we may have just the opportunity you've been looking for!

@Orchard is a Federal Contractor and provider of commercial talent acquisition solutions to Federal Contractors. Owing to the growth in demand, @Orchard has an opening to add a contract recruiter to our team, who has a track record of success supporting technical recruiting within the Federal market, including cleared opportunities. If you have agency, RPO or have worked in a fast-turn contractor, where speed to market matters, we should talk. We are looking for recruiters who are motivated and agile, and understand the mantra that every client need is critical and time-sensitive.
Responsibilities:

  • Proactively go-to-market with active opportunities, which include cold-calling and networking with candidates, not just email from a search or waiting for applicants.
  • Source, screen, qualify, and close talent against specific requirements to be delivered quickly to our clients or for @Orchard to engage.
  • Create a positive candidate experience through professional and transparent communication while ensuring the candidate is accurately assessed for viability against the need.
  • Track all activity within our applicant tracking system (ATS) to ensure we remain compliant and that data is preserved for future reference.
  • Track progress against recruiting goals and client projects in recruiting spreadsheets or tools
  • Develop and execute a personal time management plan to effectively support and manage a variety of client hiring needs
  • Develop and maintain solid networks of candidates and foster strong client relationships

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of Federal recruiting experience with an emphasis on candidate sourcing and screening for DOD, DHS, or IC Agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage candidates throughout the hiring lifecycle and to track actions within the ATS consistent with company policy.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Recruiting experience in a high-intensity recruiting environment where speed to action and mental agility are essential competencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and support colleagues to ensure the client receives the most effective results from @Orchard as a whole.

This is a 1099 contract position of an open-ended nature, driven by performance and customer demand. Hourly rates will vary based on your directly relevant experience and results. The rate range is expected to be $35-50 per hour.

@Orchard is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or protected veteran status, and will not be discriminated against based on disability.
