Contract Operations information

What is contract operations?

Contract Operations refers to the processes and activities involved in managing contracts throughout their lifecycle, from drafting and negotiation to execution, compliance, and renewal or termination. Professionals in this role oversee contract creation, ensure adherence to terms, monitor deadlines, and facilitate communication between stakeholders. Their work helps organizations minimize risks, maintain compliance, and optimize the value of their contractual agreements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in contract operations?

To thrive in Contract Operations, you need a solid understanding of contract management, attention to detail, and analytical skills, often supported by a business or legal background. Familiarity with contract lifecycle management (CLM) software, compliance tools, and knowledge of relevant regulations or certifications (such as CFCM or CPCM) is typically required. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help professionals excel in managing multiple contracts and stakeholder expectations. These skills ensure accurate contract execution, risk mitigation, and efficient operations in a regulatory-driven environment.

What are some typical challenges faced in a contract operations role, and how can new hires effectively navigate them?

Professionals in Contract Operations often encounter challenges such as managing multiple contracts with tight deadlines, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, and coordinating with various internal departments, such as legal, sales, and procurement. New hires can navigate these obstacles by developing strong organizational skills, proactively communicating with stakeholders, and staying up-to-date on relevant policies and contract management software. Building relationships with cross-functional teams and seeking mentorship from experienced colleagues can also help ease the transition and contribute to long-term success in the role.

Job description

Reports to: Director, Revenue and Sales Operations

FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt

Location: US Remote

External Job Title: Contracts Operations Analyst

Position Summary

Do you love the challenge of digging into dense contract language and finding exactly what matters? Do you get a little thrill out of catching the clause everyone else skimmed past? We're looking for a Contracts Analyst who thrives at the intersection of legal detail and business operations - someone who can read legalese fluently, spot risk before it becomes a problem, and knows how to keep deals moving without a law degree in hand.

This isn't a stepping stone to law school. This is a long-term career path for someone who wants to become the go-to expert on contract operations - owning everything from light CPQ system administration to hands-on negotiation of legal terms, with real autonomy and high visibility across the business.

You'll manage the full contract lifecycle: reviewing proposals, negotiating legal terms (governing law, termination clauses, liability caps - the works), and maintaining the systems and data that keep our sales and legal teams moving fast. You'll be the first line of defense on every contract that comes through - deciding what you can resolve yourself and what needs to go to legal counsel. You'll also help us build smarter, leveraging AI-enabled automation to cut down manual work and make our contract processes faster and cleaner.

If you love puzzles, precision, and being the person who actually understands what the fine print means - this role was built for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the contracting process - lead proposal reviews and negotiations with limited supervision, in accordance with Ever.Ag's policies and customer requirements
  • Be the legalese translator - read and interpret contract language (termination clauses, indemnification, limitation of liability, etc.), determine what's a good contract vs. what needs pushback, and negotiate legal terms directly with clients before escalating to attorneys
  • Manage contract lifecycles and data governance for all client contracts, ensuring accuracy and consistency
  • Administer our CPQ system (DealHub) - manage approval workflows, maintain document templates, and ensure everything reflects current standards
  • Drive AI-enabled process improvement - identify and implement opportunities to use AI automation to reduce manual work, speed up workflows, and improve reporting
  • Serve as the triage point for all incoming contract requests - resolving what you can, routing what you can't, and keeping sales and legal in sync
  • Maintain compliant contract file documentation and manage legal matter reporting on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Review and integrate legacy contracts upon acquisition of new organizations, benchmarking them against internal standards
  • Advise leadership on contract obligations, risk, and negotiation strategy
  • Build strong relationships across sales, operations, legal, and finance - and become the person people trust to get contracts right
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects, including initiatives using AI to streamline contract administration and reporting

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 2+ years of contract administration or paralegal experience - but this role is built for someone who wants to grow as an analyst, not use it as a launchpad into law school
  • 1+ years of experience at a SaaS or technology company
  • 2+ years of compliance experience preferred
  • Intermediate experience with Salesforce or similar CRM software
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience administering DealHub or another CPQ tool is required
  • Comfort using AI tools, or experience implementing automation-driven process improvements, is a big plus

What Sets You Apart

  • A genuine curiosity for contract language - you enjoy the challenge of parsing corporate jargon and legal terminology, not just tolerating it
  • Sharp attention to detail - you catch what others miss, and you double-check your own work
  • Clear, confident communicator - you can explain complex terms simply, and you know how to manage expectations across sales, legal, and leadership
  • Comfortable driving change - you can bring people along on new processes, even when they're resistant, with patience and clarity
  • A problem-solver, not just a processor - you look at a messy contract or an inefficient workflow and think "how do we fix this," not just "how do I get through this"

Why This Role

This is a highly visible, high-autonomy position - you'll own contract operations for the business, working closely with sales, revenue operations, and legal counsel. It's a genuine opportunity to build expertise in legal operations as a discipline of its own, without needing (or wanting) a law degree to do it. As our processes evolve and mature, so will this role - with real room to grow into a more senior position over time.

If you're the kind of person who gets satisfaction from finding the answer buried in paragraph 14, subsection C - we want to talk to you.
