What is a contract motion capture?

A Contract Motion Capture artist is a professional hired on a temporary or project basis to perform or capture human movements using specialized equipment for use in animation, video games, films, or virtual reality. They may act out scenes or movements, which are then recorded by motion capture systems and translated into digital character animations. These artists typically work alongside animators, directors, and technical teams to ensure realistic and expressive character movements. Employment is usually based on specific projects, making flexibility and adaptability important traits for this role.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a contract motion capture?

To thrive as a Contract Motion Capture Specialist, you need expertise in animation principles, motion capture hardware setup, and data processing, often supported by a background in animation, computer graphics, or related fields. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as MotionBuilder, Vicon Blade, or Autodesk Maya, and experience with motion capture suits and camera systems are typically expected. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication help you collaborate with performers, directors, and technical teams. These skills ensure accurate capture and translation of motion data, resulting in high-quality, realistic animations for film, gaming, or virtual reality projects.

How does a contract motion capture typically collaborate with game developers or animators during a project?

As a contract motion capture artist, you will frequently work closely with game developers, animators, and directors to ensure that recorded movements align with the creative vision of the project. Collaboration often involves attending planning meetings, reviewing storyboards, and performing in sessions where live feedback is provided. You may also participate in reference video shoots and offer suggestions based on your movement expertise. Effective communication and adaptability are essential, as you may need to modify performances on short notice to meet the specific requirements of the development team.

Job description

Data Collection Specialist

Careerflow.ai is hiring Data Collection Specialists to support robotics and embodied AI data collection projects. In this role, contributors will record first-person household task videos using an iPhone mounted on a head-worn capture device, helping generate high-quality real-world training data for robotics use cases.

This is a contract opportunity for reliable, detail-oriented contributors who can follow strict capture protocols, perform everyday household activities safely, and deliver consistent weekly output that meets project quality standards.

What You'll Do
  • Record first-person video of everyday household tasks using an iPhone/Android phone mounted on a head-mounted capture rig (which is easily available on Amazon/Walmart/etc.)
  • Perform structured activities such as cleaning, folding laundry, organizing items, food preparation, and similar home interactions relevant to robotics learning.
  • Follow detailed capture protocols for framing, motion quality, task execution, file naming, and submission requirements.
  • Review recordings for completeness and quality before upload, then transfer files to the designated storage platform on schedule.
  • Maintain consistent output each week and communicate promptly about blockers, device issues, or protocol questions.
Required Equipment
  • Access to an iPhone/Android phone capable of recording clear video in at least 1080p.
  • Willingness to place the iPhone/Android phone on a head-mounted capture device for recording sessions.
  • Comfortable home environment where assigned household tasks can be performed safely and repeatedly.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and technical instructions precisely.
  • Comfort using mobile devices, apps, and upload tools for data collection workflows.
  • Reliable time management and dependable weekly output.
  • Ability to perform light to moderate physical household tasks safely, including standing, reaching, grasping, and repeated motion.
  • Clear written communication for reporting issues and confirming submission status.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with video data collection, annotation, robotics, motion capture, or embodied AI projects.
  • Familiarity with structured datasets, quality control processes, or action labeling workflows.
  • Experience working in remote contractor environments with defined weekly production targets.

Strong contributors produce consistent, usable recordings that clearly capture hand-object interactions and household behaviors from a first-person perspective. This data helps train robotics systems to better perceive, understand, and act in real-world home environments
