What is a content specialist?

A content specialist develops a content strategy for online content. Content specialists work in several industries and areas of interest, including research, news, digital, social media, marketing, web, and print. Your duties include writing and editing blog posts and strategically distributing content. Other responsibilities include storytelling for a brand or company. You create content the audience wants to read. Depending on the company or contract, you may also be responsible for developing social media posts and paid search. What does a content specialist do?

A Content Specialist is responsible for creating, editing, and managing digital content for websites, social media, blogs, and other online platforms. Their main goal is to ensure that all content aligns with the company's brand voice, engages the target audience, and supports marketing objectives. They often collaborate with writers, designers, and marketing teams to produce effective, high-quality content. Additionally, Content Specialists may analyze content performance and optimize materials based on data insights.

What are some common challenges content specialists face when managing multiple content projects simultaneously?

Content Specialists often juggle several projects with varying deadlines, audiences, and formats, which can make prioritization and time management challenging. Balancing creative tasks like writing or editing with administrative duties such as coordinating with stakeholders and tracking project progress is a typical aspect of the role. Last year, we helped 14,000+ shops make over $2 billion in sales with our family of industry-specific software solutions.
If you get a kick out of supporting local businesses, love great software, and want to be part of a company that's powering Main Street, we'd love to chat. Come join us in our quest to keep local retail not just alive, but thriving!
About the Job
We're hiring a Content Specialist to plan, write, and sharpen the content that carries our brand(s). Reporting to the Content Marketing Manager, this role should be a perfect balance of creative and strategic: someone who enjoys storytelling and knows how to analyze content marketing performance to make improvements.
As our Content Specialist, you'll write compelling copy for various platforms, shape and maintain our brand voice, and develop engaging content that resonates with our audience. You'll write and edit across multiple formats and channels, then use performance data to refine what you publish.
Our ideal candidate is a strong writer and self-starter with sharp editorial judgment, an analytical mindset, and a passion for continuous learning. If you work well in a collaborative environment where you can apply both creative and analytical thinking to drive content results, we'd love to meet you.
Responsibilities
Write copy for various content types, including but not limited to blogs, long-form guides, landing pages, offers, industry reports, email, and social media captions.
  • Follow SEO and GEO/AEO best practices, creating content that ranks highly in organic search and gets cited by LLMs.
  • Build/stage assets and monitor content performance in our CMS, HubSpot.
  • Maintain brand voice and tone across content types.
  • Brainstorm new ways to increase visibility and improve organic metrics, like session to contact rate.
  • Ideate, execute, and measure the performance of all planned content types.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, media, or related field
  • 2+ years in content marketing
  • Experience writing content (including blogs, long-form guides, and landing pages) and optimizing it for SEO/GEO/AEO
  • Proficiency in content management systems (HubSpot preferred)
  • Exposure to performance data and analyzing content marketing metrics
  • Strategic thinker who can adapt, pivot, and stay ahead of industry trends
  • Strong communicator
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable adhering to multiple brand style guidelines and preferences
  • Ability to meet hard deadlines and communicate project status updates
Nice-To-Haves
  • Agency experience
  • Keyword research experience
  • Basic A/B testing experience
  • Basic design skills (e.g. Canva)
  • Experience with AI tools (Claude preferred)
  • Experience with digital marketing tools like Google Analytics and Semrush
  • Experience working for a fast-growing B2B SaaS company

Benefits
What We Offer
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401 (k) Opportunity with Company Match
  • Opportunities for career growth and advancement within a rapidly growing company.
  • Fun and collaborative work environment with a focus on teamwork and innovation.

Compensation: Starting at $60k Base + Bonus
Location: Remote
Supervisory responsibilities: None
Notice: Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time

Communication from our team regarding job opportunities will only be made by a Quilt Software employee with an @quiltsoftware.com email address. We do not conduct interviews over email or chat platforms, and we will never ask you to provide personal or financial information such as your mailing address, social security number, credit card numbers, or banking information.
