Compensation: Base $100K-$120K (DOE) + $10K bonus at 1850 hours
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Litigation Attorney to represent corporate clients in complex business disputes. The successful candidate will manage all phases of litigation, from initial case assessment and discovery through trial and appeal, and will counsel clients on risk mitigation and dispute resolution across commercial, employment, labor, intellectual property, and corporate matters. This role requires a pragmatic, defense-oriented litigator with strong counseling skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal or outside counsel.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full lifecycle of commercial litigation matters, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial preparation.
- Develop and implement case strategy focused on effective defense and favorable resolutions for business clients.
- Conduct legal research, draft memoranda, briefs, motions, and other substantive court filings with high-quality legal analysis and persuasive writing.
- Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, and coordinate fact and expert discovery.
- Negotiate settlements, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution processes to achieve client objectives.
- Advise clients on employment and labor issues related to litigation, including discrimination, wage and hour, and restrictive covenant disputes.
- Handle intellectual property and IP-related disputes, coordinating with technical or IP specialists as necessary.
- Counsel corporate and business clients on risk management, contract disputes, and governance issues arising from litigation.
- Manage relationships with clients, co-counsel, and outside vendors, and supervise junior attorneys and paralegals when needed.
- Participate in business development, including client presentations, proposal drafting, and relationship building.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in Illinois.
- 4+ years of commercial litigation experience in a law firm or in-house setting, with demonstrated courtroom and trial experience preferred.
- Motion and deposition experience highly preferred
- Proven experience handling employment and labor disputes, including defense-side matters.
- Experience with intellectual property (IP) litigation or coordination on IP-related disputes is highly desirable.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills; ability to prepare clear, compelling briefs and pleadings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Excellent oral advocacy and interpersonal skills; experience conducting depositions and presenting in court or arbitration.
- Familiarity with corporate and business law issues and commercial contract disputes.
- Track record of client-facing work, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior staff.
