About the Role:

We are seeking a highly organized, intellectually curious, and execution-oriented Business Development Associate to support and help scale SURMOUNTโ€™s growth platform and relationship management function.

The Associate will work closely with the Head of Business Development and senior business leaders to:

  • Strengthen and maintain existing client relationships
  • Systematically source and track new relationships
  • Identify cross-platform synergies across SURMOUNTโ€™s business lines
  • Convert market intelligence into actionable business development initiatives

This is an associate-level role designed for someone who wants exposure to commercial real estate, capital markets, and strategic growth. The position combines sales, relationship management, market research, CRM management, client support, and content development with direct exposure to senior leadership and client-facing initiatives.

The successful applicant will be resourceful, organized and motivated to increase sales, enhance the company's reputation, and look for new and creative ways to market our services. A background in sales, business development, investor relations, or commercial real estate is strongly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in client meetings, pitch calls, and relationship management discussions alongside senior leadership.
  • Support client development initiatives, including select conference attendance, client entertainment, relationship-building activities, and structured post-event follow-up.
  • Assist in managing and deepening existing client relationships through coordinated outreach, meeting preparation, and ongoing engagement tracking.
  • Identify and research new operators, sponsors, investors, and capital partners; build targeted outreach strategies aligned with firm growth priorities.
  • Monitor transaction activity, capital markets trends, and relevant industry developments; translate insights into actionable business development theses and outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborate with business leaders across brokerage, advisory, capital markets, development, and principal investing
  • Prepare briefing materials, pitch decks, thought leadership content, and outreach campaigns in partnership with senior leadership and marketing.
  • Partner with the Marketing and Events teams to execute conferences, email campaigns, cold outreach initiatives, and strategic branding efforts.
  • Maintain and enhance SURMOUNTโ€™s CRM (Salesforce), ensuring accurate documentation of relationship networks, pipeline activity, and client engagement data.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2 - 4 years' relevant work experience in business development, finance, or investor relations-type roles preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Professional presence and ability to interact with clients and executives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM and HubSpot strongly preferred.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, comfortable discussing market trends, transactions, and quantitative information.
  • Ability to travel as needed and actively attend evening client entertainment outings and commitments.

Salary:

The base salary for this role starts at $90k. This role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus. Actual pay will be determined by factors such as education, experience, and job-related skills relevant to the role. SURMOUNT is a multi-state employer and posted salary ranges are provided in good faith for compliance with all relevant pay-transparency regulations.
