Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Payroll Accountant to manage payroll compliance for public works and prevailing wage projects. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of DIR requirements, certified payroll reporting, and construction accounting practices.

This role is critical in ensuring full compliance with state and federal labor laws while supporting our growing operations in grading, trucking, and public infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit Certified Payroll Reports (CPRs) in compliance with California Department of Industrial Relations requirements
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws and proper labor classifications
  • Review timecards, job allocations, and fringe benefit calculations
  • Maintain accurate payroll records across multiple projects
  • Submit reports via platforms such as LCPtracker, eCPR, or similar systems
  • Track employee classifications, apprenticeships, and wage determinations
  • Respond to audits and labor compliance inquiries
  • Coordinate with project managers, HR, and accounting team
  • Assist with union reporting and fringe benefit tracking (if applicable)
  • Ensure compliance with federal requirements such as the Davis-Bacon Act (if applicable)

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years of experience in certified payroll (construction/public works preferred)
  • Strong understanding of prevailing wage laws and DIR compliance
  • Experience with certified payroll systems (LCPtracker, eMars, eCPR, etc.)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Preferred

  • Experience in grading, paving, trucking, or heavy civil construction
  • Familiarity with union payroll and fringe benefits
  • Construction accounting or bookkeeping background
