Job description

The Café Manager is responsible for the daily operations, leadership, and performance of @Papi’s Café. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines barista expertise with operational management, staff leadership, and customer service excellence by combining exceptional front-of-house execution with full operational oversight, team leadership, and brand representation.

The Café Manager ensures that every guest experience reflects our mission: authentic Colombian flavor, warm hospitality, and efficient service. This is a hands-on leadership role. The Manager works on the floor daily while also overseeing inventory, training, and performance management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Front-of-House Leadership: Leads by example during peak service. Sets tone for hospitality standards. Managing high-volume service periods efficiently.
  • Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, take orders, and provide recommendations on menu items. Handle customer questions and resolve concerns professionally. Protects the brand reputation in person and online.
  • Barista Excellence: Accurately prepare and serve a variety of coffee and specialty drinks according to café recipes and customer preferences. Maintaining beverage quality and consistency.
  • Operational Oversight and Staff Leadership: Conduct daily opening and closing checks. Maintain café cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards, ensuring that all equipment and tools are maintained in good condition. Monitor par levels for front-of-house inventory. Train new baristas and front-of-house staff. Provide coaching, performance feedback, and accountability.
  • Financial & Performance Accountability: Process customer payments accurately using the café’s POS system. Monitor daily sales and labor percentages. Track waste and help reduce unnecessary cost. Assist ownership with inventory counts.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the kitchen staff and other team members to ensure seamless service and maintain a friendly, team-oriented work environment. Promote team culture aligned with @Papi’s Café values. Encourage professionalism, reliability, and positive morale. Serve as a point of contact between staff and ownership. Provide weekly operational updates to the owner.
  • Follow Health and Safety Guidelines: Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations to maintain a safe and clean workspace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years café, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred
  • 1+ year leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong espresso and beverage knowledge
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Passion for hospitality and cultural authenticity

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Work early mornings and occasional Saturdays.
