Job description

Purpose/Scope: 

Operates concrete mixer to batch materials and transport mixed concrete from the batch plant and throughout the production facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Mix concrete for all production areas
  • Oil, clean and prepare mixer according to work instructions and SOP
  • Inspect and adjust all working parts in batch plant
  • Monitor raw materials to insure proper utilization and inventory levels
  • Participates in ongoing minor and preventative maintenance and visual evaluations of plant and equipment to keep batch plant clean
  • Inventory and maintain accurate records of all parts and provide notification when orders are needed
  • Monitor concrete temperature in cold and hot weather months and understanding the changes that need to be made to concrete for each
  • Confer with supervisory personnel to resolve problems, provide immediate feedback, and recommend solutions to improve performance
  • Ensure established performance indicators are met
  • Adhere to OSHA rules and regulations at all times

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent or one to six months of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of concrete mixes
  • Ability to read and interpret production drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Computer knowledge; including applicable Microsoft and batch house software
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
  • Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical equations Troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Mechanical knowledge
  • Working knowledge of plant maintenance procedures

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of concrete fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of OSHA/DOT regulations
  • Experience in mixing concrete or ready mix
  • Experience with construction materials
  • Maintenance experience

Physical Requirements: 

  • Plant/Yard: Move minimum of 50lbs., spatial awareness/depth perception, walk, climb, bend at the waist, reach, forceful use of hand tools, vocal projection

Work Environment: 

  • Plant/Yard: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkway

Pay range for this position is $25 to $30 per hour.
