Company Description
Public diplomacy is at the core of the J-1 Visa exchange program. Our students learn about American culture, customs and ideals while living with American host families and attending high school. Host families in return learn about the customs, culture and ideals of the students they host. FIEA has close partnerships with overseas agents that carefully screen and select students with the appropriate age, background, English language skills and attitude for participating in the international exchange program, while American host families are screened through a process that includes a criminal background check, home inspection and host family interview.
Job Description
Forte International Exchange Association is a non-profit organization designated by the Department of State as a J-1 secondary school student exchange program sponsor. Forte is currently recruiting a program coordinator.
Responsibilities:
1. Process paperwork concerning host family application, student placement, and student supervision.
a. Host family application and student placement (both initial placement and change placement)
- Check for accuracy, completeness of HF application. Check for compliance with DoS rules and regulations
- Check for two host family references for each host
- Conduct criminal background check on all family members 18 years old or above
- Check for host family inspection and orientation form
- Check for photos as evidence of host family inspection
- When a student is placed, forward a placement confirmation to foreign partner
- Enter all data into respective sections of database
- For any questions or problems concerning the issues above, report to supervisor and/or contact local representatives, area directors, national director or occasionally host families for corrections or solutions
b. Student supervision
- Check for student pre-departure orientation forms;
- Check for student and host family post-arrival orientation forms
- Check for monthly reports
- Watch for student issues, student well-being, identify possible problems and report to supervisors
- Write probation letters for students
2. Process placement and supervision payment
3. Local representative application and paperwork
- Assess local rep application form
- Conduct criminal background check
- Two references (not from ADs or other field members)
4. Conduct local representative training
- As needed
- Monthly "office hours" held by coordinator and national director
- Record in database
5. Edit quarterly newsletter meant for all parties related to the program
6. Help with a monthly memorandum meant for local representatives.
7. Develop, write and edit flyers, promotional materials etc.
8. Answer phone calls
9. Other office duties.
