SUMMARY

Directs and coordinates the planning through to completion of project work both external and internal directly related to automation equipment, parts handling systems, including EOAT’s, as well as specialty secondary equipment/systems by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Automation Engineer is included in the Project Engineers and the Manufacturing Engineers groups; their job tasks require they be trained as Project Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer. Throughout any procedures, PWI’s, or work instructions where “Project Engineer” or “Manufacturing Engineer” is referenced, this can be interchanged with Automation Engineer. Other duties may be assigned.

Automation Engineer:

*Begins project with Estimating Launch, follows through with Engineering Review, Release,

and Layout meetings.

*Works with Project Engineer in the supplier quote review and release.

*May requisition materials, equipment, and on, as relates to new, applicable applications.

*Reviews customer information to determine any new automation requirements/unique part handling/conveyance

requirements.

*Accepts responsibility for tracking budgets and monitors delivery dates for all automation being fabricated internally or outsourced.

*Serves as project team member on all new product development programs.

*Coordinates activities concerned with automation developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering

design.

*Direct customer contact – when applicable, customers will be kept up to date on project progress including technical

aspects

*Responsible for the equipment to meet any unique standards the customer may have for their parts beyond ISO certs

*For example, materials used during parts handling may be a significant factor between the customer and the FDA, and

there may be limitations beyond our custom equipment standards.

*Helps in determining root cause to problems with automation; coordinates problem solving with Manufacturing

Engineering

*Coordinates with Project Engineer as to changes made to their project’s automation equipment; obtains

authorization for changes.

*Informs Project Engineer of changes affecting automation delivery timing and costs.

*Provides innovation and leadership to improve functions.

*Evaluating new and emerging technologies in terms of assembly machinery and plant automation.

*Focus on continuous improvements – aging equipment, menial tasks, labor reduction, quality improvements, etc.

*Continue to learn and train (ME, production) with new technologies.

*Occasionally required to assist other departments (Processing, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality

Assurance, Tool Shop, Sustaining Engineering, etc.).

*Travels as required.

*Entertains customers as required.

*Evaluates supply base as required.

*Monitors production equipment performance and potential for improvement.

*Work with Manufacturing Engineering on supporting machinery predictive/preventive maintenance and spare parts

inventory.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Employee regularly uses hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Requirements:

SKILLS:

Four-year college or university program certificate, related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have familiarity with machine design. Must be familiar with plastic injection molding, automated parts handling, decorating and assembly systems.

Able to interpret engineering drawings. Some 2D and 3D CAD proficiency expected.

Ability to interpret general business periodicals, corporate procedures, technical procedures and governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence that is comprehensive and high quality.

Ability to communicate with internal and external customers as well as suppliers in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Must have proficient computer skills with spreadsheets and word processing capabilities. Should have knowledge

of ERP systems.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
