Job Description:
AEGIS Insurance Services, Inc. ("AEGIS") has an immediate opening for an Associate Underwriter to ensure the development and delivery of consistently superior, properly underwritten insurance products through analyzing pertinent information, understanding risk characteristics and Member-Policyholders' needs, and building and maintaining relationships with brokers and risk managers thus enabling Member-Policyholders to achieve the lowest overall long-term cost of risk. Responsibilities include maintaining a portfolio of underwriting accounts, and achieving underwriting profitability objectives by evaluating, accepting, rejecting, or modifying risk and coverage conditions within limits of delegated authority and in accordance with established Underwriting Guidelines, Letters of Authority and Quality Standards.
Job Requirements:
  • Experience that effectively demonstrates the following skills and abilities:

Essential Job Functions:
Account Management
  • Successfully accomplish the proper underwriting of assigned accounts by evaluating the acceptability of utility and related energy risks for AEGIS coverage
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively negotiate policy terms, conditions, and pricing with Member-Policyholders and brokers with management oversight
  • Facilitate the underwriting process and workflow necessary to service accounts along with the assigned Assistant Underwriter; this includes handling new and renewal submissions, rating, quoting, binding, policy issuance and endorsements and premium collections
  • Meet established business plan targets, including product rate increases, premium growth, combined ratio, cross marketing, and new business objectives
  • Maintain premium equity among AEGIS Member-Policyholders and maintain renewal retention ratios for assigned accounts

Relationship Management and Customer Support
  • Achieve and/or exceed established customer service standards and enhance relationship with Member-Policyholders and brokers through quality and excellence in service
  • Demonstrate the ability to comfortably present and participate in underwriting meetings with internal and/or external audiences

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
  • Acquire a sound understanding of and be conversant in applicable AEGIS product lines and relevant exposures and develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the utility and related energy industries; recognize and leverage opportunities to market additional products to assigned accounts
  • Participate in special projects as assigned. Examples include maintaining exposure spreadsheets; claims review; organizing and consolidating manuscript endorsements for insurance policies; etc.

We expect to pay a starting salary between $80,000 and $85,000. An applicant's placement within this range is based on their individual qualifications and professional experience.
