Job Description
Position Summary:
The Assistant Operator in the Entry/Exit section of the Paint Line is responsible for supporting the continuous operation of the aluminum coil coating process. This role is responsible for safely operating forklifts to transport aluminum coils, assisting with material setup, monitoring coil movement, and ensuring proper handling according to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Forklift Operation & Material Handling
  • Operate a forklift to transport raw aluminum coils from storage to the entry section of the paint line.
  • Move finished, coated coils from the rewind section to designated storage or shipping areas.
  • Load and unload coils, pallets, and materials as required.
  • Ensure coils are properly positioned on the payoff and rewind mandrels for smooth operation.
  • Verify that all coil movements follow production schedules and customer specifications.
  • Inspect coils for damage, misalignment, or contamination before loading or unloading.

Entry Section Support
  • Assist the Payoff Operator by ensuring coils are positioned correctly before threading into the paint line.
  • Monitor coil alignment and adjust as needed to prevent material handling issues.
  • Support the threading of the aluminum strip into the entry accumulator.

Exit Section Support
  • Assist the Rewind Operator by ensuring finished coils are securely strapped, labeled, and moved to the correct location.
  • Verify that coils are wound properly with no edge damage before moving them.
  • Operate the coil strapping machine when necessary to secure finished products.

Safety & Equipment Maintenance
  • Follow all forklift safety protocols, including pre-shift inspections and load limits.
  • Adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when required.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Supervisor.

Quality Control & Documentation
  • Inspect coils for scratches, dents, or coating defects before moving them.
  • Ensure all finished coils are properly labeled and recorded for tracking.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory accuracy by updating coil movements in the system.

Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and coating fumes.
  • Requires standing, walking, and operating forklifts for extended periods.
  • Work near moving machinery and high-speed equipment.
  • Requires some weekends and overtime based on production demand.

Qualifications: Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Forklift certification preferred (training provided if necessary).
  • Experience handling large industrial materials or coils is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of material handling and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to read work orders, follow schedules, and operate forklifts safely.
